Thanks to a host of impressive performances, the Woodridge girls track team gained runner-up honors in the district championship.

Facing a strong and deep field, Woodridge finished second overall in the Bedford Division II District Championships May 18 and May 20.

Jeff Howard's squad was edged for the team crown by rival Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary 103-95.

Woodridge managed to finish ahead of excellent clubs from Akron Buchtel (84), Chagrin Falls (77), and Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (73.5).

The top four finishers in each event at Bedford qualified for the Austintown Fitch Division I Regional Championships May 25 and May 27. Results from regionals weren't available as of press time.

In regional action, the top four finishers advanced to the State Championships June 2-3 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at The Ohio State University.

"The girls crew had an outstanding couple of days in Bedford this week," said Howard. "The Bulldogs qualified a number of events to the Austintown Regional on their way to runner-up finish in the 15-team event."

Junior Nicole Seff led Woodridge by capturing the Bulldogs' lone individual title by capturing the pole vault championship over sophomore teammate Cameron Miller.

Pacing the Lady Bulldogs' 1-2 finish in the pole vault, Seff reached 9-0 feet while Miller hit for 8-feet, 6.0 inches to gain second-place at Bearcat Stadium.

Woodridge also scored big in the 3,200-meter open race.
