The Cuyahoga Falls girls track and field team was in eighth place with five points in the National Conference after the first day of the Suburban League Championships May 9 at Nordonia High School's Boliantz Stadium in Macedonia.
The 3,200-meter relay team of Chelsea Huffman, Kayla Huffman, Zoe King and Emily Zimmerman placed sixth with a time of 10 minutes, 9.7 seconds.
Rachel LaFlame took seventh in the discus with a throw of 33 feet, 3.25 inches.
Qualifying for finals were Sarah Wyatt in the 100 hurdles; De'Vine Shelton in the 300 hurdles; and LaFlame in the shot put.
The Suburban League Championships were scheduled to conclude May 11. Results were not available at press time.
The Lady Black Tigers finished in a tie for second with Olmsted Falls (87 points) at the 43rd annual Bulldog Relays May 5 in Olmsted Falls.
North Royalton won the six-team competition with 108 points.
Falls' lone victory in track came in the 6,400 relay.
The team of Zimmerman, Valerie Deighton, King and Kayla Huffman won with a time of 23 minutes, 31.25 seconds.
The Lady Black Tigers also won one field-event relay.
LaFlame (second overall, 97-8), Holly Williams (third, 94-2) and Brynn Torok (fourth, 93-5) took first in the discus (285-3).
Zimmerman, King and Kayla Huffman also joined Chelsea Huffman on the second-place 3,200 relay (10:36.71).
Zimmerman, Kayla Huffman and Chelsea Huffman joined Madi Davis on the fourth-place 1,600 relay (6:39.6).
Shelton added a second place in the 100 with a time of 13.28 seconds. Shelton also was part of three relays that placed.
She joined Kenna Shook, Anna Johnston and Katlyn Long on the second-place 800 relay (1:58.12) and Emma Hammonds, Shook and Long on the fourth-place 400 relay (56.84).
Shelton, Johnston, Long and Wyatt led the 800 sprint medley to second place in 2:03.28.
Wyatt also placed second in the 100 hurdles in 17.16 seconds.
Falls' was the runner up in the high-jump relay. The team of Destiny Tillison and Davis combined for a total of 8-3.
The shuttle hurdle team of Emily Longfellow, Wyatt, Katie Rozsa and Brooklyn Pastoria captured third (1:14.83).
Deighton finished fourth in the 1,600 in 6:39.6.
The girls distance medley team of Davis, Emily Longfellow, Kearan Barnett and Camilla Tombolatto placed sixth (15:57.43).
Falls is scheduled to compete at a Division I district meet May 17 and 19 at Boliantz Stadium. The competition is set to begin at 4 p.m. both days.
