The Cuyahoga Falls girls cross country team placed sixth with 170 points at the eight-team Andrews Osborne Academy Invitational Oct. 8 in Willoughby.

Massillon Jackson won the competition with 30 points and Cleveland Heights (83) and Willoughby South (85) took second and third, respectively.

"We finally had a nice day to run," Lady Black Tigers head coach Dan Scourfield said. "They ran a lot of PRs [personal records]."

Eastlake North's Sydnie Schwent finished first out of 59 runners with a time of 19 minutes, 39.16 seconds.

With the conference meet lurking, Scourfield decided to rest his top runners for this race.

As a result, sophomore Alivia Hamric led Falls with a personal-best time of 22:40.82.

Senior Sarah Jones was the next Lady Black Tiger to cross the finish line. She placed 34th in 23:25.33.

"It's always nice to see a senior have a big day in one of her last meets," Scourfield said. "She ran exceptionally well."

Rounding out the team scoring for Falls were freshmen Zoe King (36th, 23:33.32) and Kearan Barnett (39th, 24:25.4) and sophomore Kristica Barnett (40th, 24:27.31).

"Zoe has run five straight PRs," Scourfield said.

Also running for the Lady Black Tigers were sophomore Mikayla Shaffer (43rd, 24:48.81) and junior Payton Veto (48th, 25:56.7)

"Mikayla had a nice PR," Scourfield said. "Payton battled a cold."

Falls finished third out of four teams with 82 points. Jackson won the competition with 15 points and Willoughby South placed second (53).

Junior Camille Tombolato led the Lady Black Tigers with a 43rd-place time of 24:47.76.

"Camille is an Italian exchange student," Scourfield said. "She took two minutes off her best time. It's a shame we can't hold onto her a little longer."

Junior teammate Madison Davis wasn't far behind in 45th (24:52.92).

Rounding out the top five for Falls were sophomore Briannah Babbitt (77th, 27:23.23), senior Jordan Reinhart (81st, 28:10.74) and freshman Leila Wargowsky (83rd, 28:26.84).

"Leila had a PR by a minute and Briannah took two minutes off," Scourfield said.

The Lady Black Tigers were scheduled to run at the Suburban League Meet Oct. 15 at Goodyear Metro Park in Akron. Results were not available at press time.

Falls is set to run at a Division I district meet Oct. 22 at Malone University in Canton. Racing is scheduled to begin at 5:25 p.m.

"The plan is to get the team out of districts," Scourfield said. "We're going to have to run our very best. There is no margin for error."
