Duo runs in Burning River relay race

The Lady Canal Rats, a relay team based in Akron, competed in the Burning River 100-mile/50-mile endurance runs and relay, which took place Aug. 6.

The race started in Willoughby Hills and ended in Cuyahoga Falls.

The team finished 22nd with a time of 20 minutes, 39.43 seconds.

The team included Cuyahoga Falls' residents Elaine Conard and Liz Tucci.

CVCA girls golfers

finish fourth

The Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy girls golf team finished fourth at a four-team match Aug. 9 at Loyal Oak Golf Course in Norton.

The Lady Royals finished with a score of 200. Natalie Cochran led the way with a score of 45. Rounding out the team scoring for CVCA were Julie Gorbach (48), Annie Molnar (49) and Kally Ashton (58).

The Lady Royals were scheduled to play Lake Center Christian Aug. 12 at Sable Creek Golf Course in Hartville. Results were not available at press time.

CVCA is set to play Cuyahoga Falls Aug. 18 at Fox Den Golf Course in Stow. Play is scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m.

Register for Tiger Sharks swim team

Registration for the Cuyahoga Falls Riverfront YMCA Natatorium Tigers Sharks swimming team is scheduled to take place Aug. 27 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Riverfront YMCA.

The practice commitment ranges from three to five times per week, depending on the swimming group. Meets are typically set to take place Saturdays and/or Sundays.

Swimmers are required to swim the length of the pool without assistance. All swimmers that are new to the team will need to complete a swim test the day of registration. Bring a bathing suit if new to the team.

Falls' native

honored for track

Cuyahoga Falls' native Emily Gillespie is a member of the Youngstown State University women's track and field team, which received United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association all-academic team honors during the spring. Gillespie, who is part of Youngstown State's exercise science program, competes in the pole vault.

Trio fares well

Three Silver Lake Country Club members recently placed in the top three in their respective flights at the Women's Akron District Golf Association at Portage Country Club in Akron.

Gail Rownd finished first in the flight 4 low net standings with a two-day total of 144.

Becka Kasapis placed second in the flight 1 low net standings with a three-day total of 220. Julie Cowling finished third in the flight 2 low gross standings with a two-day total of 183.

Walsh graduate to

play at Temple

Walsh Jesuit graduate Kyra Coundourides recently decided to play her junior volleyball season at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Coundourides was a former All-Ohio setter for the Lady Warriors. Coundourides had 956 assists, 304 digs and 46 service aces during her two-year career at Virginia Tech.
