CVCA golfers finish

fourth in Massillon

The Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy boys golf team finished fourth with a score of 332 at the eight-team Principals Athletic Conference Preseason Tournament Aug. 10 at the Legends of Massillon.

Tuscarawas Valley (Bolivar) won the competition with a score of 309 and Fairless (Navarre) and Manchester (Akron) each shot a 331 to finish in a tie for second.

Christian Beckett led the Royals with a score of 76.

Also faring well for CVCA were Daniel Burgoyne (85), Tristan Roberts (85) and Andrew Golembiewski (86).

The Royals finished 12th with a score of 363 at the 15-team Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Invitational Aug. 8 at Silver Lake Country Club.

Hudson won the competition with a score of 311 and Cleveland St. Ignatius (326) and Chagrin Falls (329) placed second and third, respectively.

Hudson's Will Kurtz earned medalist honors with a score of 68.

Wyatt Ashton led the Royals with a score of 84. Also playing for CVCA were Burgoyne (92), Beckett (93) and Ethan Hufnagle (102).

Softball tryouts

offered in Falls

Hit & Run Heat Girls fastpitch softball is scheduled to offer 2017 season tryouts Aug. 20 and 27 at Harrington Field, which is located 2610 Oakwood Drive in Cuyahoga Falls.

The tryouts are for girls, ages 8 to 16. The tryouts for age 10-and-younger and 12-and-younger players are set to take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The tryouts for 14-and-younger and 16-and-younger players are scheduled to take place from noon to 3 p.m.

Walsh golfers

place third

The Walsh Jesuit boys golf team finished third with a season-low 18-hole score of 299 at the 18-team Walker Jones Classic Aug. 10 at Shale Creek Golf Club in Medina.

Toledo St. John's Jesuit won the competition with a score of 289 and Hudson placed second (298).

St. John's Alex Morrison and Chagrin Falls' Dan Berlin each shot a 69 to share medalist honors.

Zak Supelak led the Warriors with a 71. Also contributing for Walsh were Brennan Komos (75), Conner Evans (76), John Burns (77) and Matt Flinchbaugh (77).

Woodridge grad plays football

Woodridge graduate Charkym Bonaparte is a junior defensive tackle on the Baldwin Wallace (Berea) University football team.

Bonaparte had 18 tackles, a sack and three tackles for loss in 2015.
