As the season winds down for the Cuyahoga Falls girls basketball, the Black Tigers are improving as they head toward the post season.
On Jan. 31, the Black Tigers won at Barberton, 42-30. Falls led 11-9 after the first quarter, 19-12 at halftime and 27-19 after the third quarters.
Falls is 4-15 overall and 1-6 in the Lake Division of the NOC.
"From the start of the year until now, that was our most complete game of the season," Falls coach Joe Nowak said. "Playing that way is good for our confidence as we finish up the regular season. Jasmine Eaker has played really well and our play inside around the basket has improved."
Eaker has five straight double-doubles. Against the Magics, Eaker registered 14 points and 21 rebounds.
Zoey Bosley had 11 points and three steals, while Mary Messner had nine points on three 3-point shots and grabbed six rebounds.
Rounding out the scoring was Emily Morgan with three points, Hannah Johnson and Karleigh Zeiszler with two each and Alyssa Mondl had one point.
On Feb. 2, the Black Tigers dropped a 53-52 decision to Normandy.
"They [Normandy] rallied in the final two minutes and we made some mistakes," Nowak said. "We have been playing more aggressively and that had helped us get better looks at the basket."
Eaker finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Messner had 14 points and five rebounds, and Rosie Townsend had nine points and hauled down 13 rebounds and Johnson added six points.
Falls was set to host Garfield Heights Feb. 7 and then play at Valley Forge Feb. 9, but results were not available at press time.
On Feb. 13, the Black Tigers host Parma on Senior Night honoring the five seniors on the team.
The Black Tigers will open the post season on Feb. 18 at the Medina Division I sectional tournament against Firestone. Falls is the 10th seeded team at the tournament.
