Professional golfer at Firestone

Russell J. Baeli "Poppy," 78, died Dec. 19, 2012.

Mr. Baeli was born in Akron and had resided in Cuyahoga Falls most of his life.

He had been a professional golfer at Firestone Country Club and began his career in car sales with Dick McCulley in the early 1960s. He continued in car sales with Tom Botzum and went on to own Kent Lincoln Mercury from 1969 to 1982.

He retired from the automotive business in 2002 and enjoyed time with his family and friends. He had served with the U. S. Army 82nd Airborne during the Korean War and was a member of St. Eugene's Parish in Cuyahoga Falls.

Preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Frank Baeli, Fran Viele, Ann Tanney and Bill Baeli, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dolores; children, MaryJane "Terri" Seifert of Tallmadge; Russell W. Baeli of Cuyahoga Falls and Paula (David) Volpe of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren, William (Tracy), Andrew, Vincenzo and Mario; great-grandchild, Devyn and many wonderful nephews and nieces.

Cremation has taken place. Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Eugene's Church, 1821 Munroe Falls Ave., Cuyahoga Falls 44221, St. Jude's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA.
