Hospice of VNS' Camp Promise Celebrating 5 YearsMarch 8, 2010
The Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service (VNS) Center for Loss and Hope's annual free children's bereavement day camp, Camp Promise, is celebrating its' 5th year. This year's camp will be held daily June 14-16 from 8 a.m. " 4 p.m. to help children ages 6-11 process a significant loss, such as a parent, grandparent or sibling. The children will learn to manage and understand their grief through creative activities such as craft-making, music, drama, and art therapy. "The whole atmosphere of the camp is so positive and encouraging," the parent of a camp participant commented on an evaluation form. "The kids are in a safe environment where they feel so loved and understood. They learn that not only are their feelings about their loss ok but that it's normal. The thought process they develop from it is so healthy and supportive." A staff of experienced facilitators will oversee the children as they go through the creative stations. A morning snack, boxed lunch and afternoon snack will be provided each day. The camp will be held at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center at 3358 Ridgewood Road in Fairlawn. Participants attend Camp Promise at no-cost to their families thanks to the generosity of countless businesses and individuals. This year's Premier Sponsor is Westminster Presbyterian Church.
