A major step toward the redevelopment of the former State Road Shopping Center site was taken Monday night. Cuyahoga Falls City Council approved a contract to sell the 25.29-acre site to Stark Enterprises for $3.79 million.

Robert L. Stark, president and chief executive officer of Stark Enterprises, said the development planned for the plaza site will be called Portage Crossing and will consist of retail establishments anchored by a grocery store.

"I appreciate Council's vote," said Mayor Don L. Robart after the meeting. "It shows they have a vision along with the administration."

Councilwoman Carol Klinger (R-at large) cast the only dissenting vote.

"I believe the passage of this ordinance to be a gamble I am not willing to take," said Klinger.
