During the month of May, visitors to Severance Hall can try their hand at being a conductor with UBS Virtual Maestro, a unique, interactive kiosk that allows both adults and children to conduct their own "virtual orchestra" via an electronic controller.
By guiding the controller, participants control the tempo and volume of an on-screen ensemble using cutting-edge technology. The UBS Virtual Maestro will be accessible in Smith Lobby of Severance Hall through May 25. It will be available before and after Cleveland Orchestra concerts (and during intermissions) as well as prior to other Severance Hall concerts and events open to the public.
The UBS Virtual Maestro display uses cutting-edge technology to allow users to "conduct" an orchestra. Employing a hand-held controller, users can direct an orchestra that appears on a 42-inch plasma screen while a speaker projects audio.
The orchestra responds directly to the movement of the controller. When the music finishes, the orchestra stands and applauds the novice conductor.
