Boy Scouts collecting canned goods
at Memorial Day parade
Local Boy Scouts will be collecting items for the United Service Organization of Northeast Ohio care packages going overseas to the troops along the Memorial Day parade route in Cuyahoga Falls. Currently there is a much needed demand for canned goods for the care packages. Any non perishable items can be donated and a full list of acceptable items can be found at www.usocleveland.org. The parade will step off at 9 a.m. on May 26 at the State Road shopping plaza and follow down Portage Trail. If you have any questions or would like to make a care package drop off before, or after the parade call Farmers Insurance, The Norman-Lukanc Agency at 330-928-6542.
Collection boxes have been set up at the Cuyahoga Falls municipal building, 2310 Second St., and at the Natatorium, 2345 Fourth St. Canned goods can be dropped off in the boxes at these two sites between now and May 23. The Boy Scouts will do a walk through of the parade route on May 26 at about 8:30 a.m. before the start of the parade. Anyone who is attending the parade is encouraged to bring a canned good with them to give to the Scouts as they make their way along the parade route.
Items that are sent to the troops also include: Single serving non-perishable fruit cups; soup; pasta dishes; fruit chews; and powder drink mix to add to water.
Memorial Day Parade plans continue
The host post for the 2008 Cuyahoga Falls Memorial Day Parade will be V.F.W. Ralph Huff Post 1062, 1581 Main St.
Parade meetings will be conducted May 18 and June 1 at 2 p.m. at the Huff post.
The parade will take place May 26.
If a group will have more than one unit participating in the parade, Committee Chairman Dave Sebastian asks organizations to send an application for each unit so space requirements for the line-up area may be properly estimated.
The parade is in its 76th year and is said to be the largest Memorial Day Parade in Ohio. Last year it was estimated that had approximately 40,000 people were in attendance on the parade route.
The Memorial Day parade and ceremony honors the veterans who were lost defending America as well as all veterans past and present.
