Springtime often means a clean slate for many of us. People start planting in their gardens, mowing their lawns, and cleaning up around their house. I know that spring is always a time when my wife and I sort through our stuff, and figure out what to keep and what to discard or donate to charity.
I'm in a similar frame of mind when it comes to this newspaper. While I'm happy with what we're doing, I feel like now is a good moment to step back and assess what we can do to improve our product.
Readers who have ideas for how the paper can enhance its coverage of the news, events and people of Cuyahoga Falls and Silver Lake are encouraged to stop by my next Coffee with the Editor session on May 6 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The session will take place in the Chambers Room on the lower level of the Cuyahoga Falls Library, 2015 Third St.
I have developed a short questionnaire that I would like readers to fill out at the May 6 coffee session. Readers can complete the questionnaire at the library, or they can take a copy with them and return it to me at their leisure. I will bring extra copies of the paper for readers to leaf through as they fill out the questionnaire. If readers can't stop by on May 6, they're welcome to attend in either June or July to complete the form.
I am particularly interested in suggestions for a new regular feature to run in the paper. Loyal readers of the paper are familiar with the My Turns feature that runs each week on Page 8 and the Know Your Neighbor feature that appears each week on Page 4. I think the time is right to introduce another reoccurring feature that readers can turn to each week.
While I always appreciate receiving verbal feedback from readers, it is helpful to have written suggestions and opinions. I see this as the start of an ongoing dialogue with readers about how the paper can evolve in this brave new world of journalism.
