A writer's absurd letter ( "Offers thoughts on Republicans' battle," April 6, 2008) suggests that I am somehow in a league with Democrats to take over the Republican Party.
Please.
I believe the Summit County Republican Party under Alex Arshinkoff has squandered its money and lost too many elections. The result is a laughable record of 10 wins and 67 losses since 2002.
Like many, I want a change in leadership. I support Carol Klinger to be the next party chair. She is a solid Republican, a strong political organizer, and a respected business leader.
Carol will clean up the finances and get Republicans winning again.
I think Arshinkoff's wild conspiracy theories are becoming comical. In my opinion, he labels all who oppose his leadership as bad Republicans who must be hatching plans with the Democrats.
How solid are Arshinkoff's Republican credentials?
* Recently, Arshinkoff has run opponents against Republican officeholders.
* Arshinkoff refused to run anyone against Don Plusquellic for Akron mayor in 2007. Plusquellic barely won his primary, leaving many to wonder if he was vulnerable.
* Arshinkoff publicly endorsed Plusquellic's failed sales tax increase.
* Arshinkoff used party resources to file a Federal Elections Commission complaint this year seeking to remedy a perceived injustice against Hillary Clinton of all people.
Before the writer drinks the Arshinkoff Kool Aid, he should look at the party's performance. If there is any group that has benefited from Alex Arshinkoff's leadership of the GOP, it's the Democrats.
