World War II veteran

George Musik, 83, died March 11, 2008.

He was born on May 27, 1924 in Akron to John and Katherine Musik and was a life long resident. He served in World War II and was stationed overseas in France as part of the 20th Tank Destroyer Group. Among his service awards, he received the Bronze Star Medal.

Mr. Musik was one of the top amateur golfers in Summit County during the 1950s, 60s and 70s. He was a three-time Champion of Firestone Country Club and won the All Firestone Co. Championship three times. During his heyday, he also won many local ADGA events. He was a life member of VFW Post 3383 and a charter member of the Akron Army-Navy Club. He retired from the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. with more than 43 years of service.

Preceded in death by parents, John and Katherine, and brothers, John and Joe; he is survived by his sister, Helen Borrell of Cuyahoga Falls, and her children Jim (Tammy) of Cuyahoga Falls, Maryellen (Gary) Callahan of Cuyahoga Falls, John Borrell of Indiana, Tom (Barb) Borrell of Michigan, Carel (Glen) Warnick of Cuyahoga Falls, Brian (Sue) Borrell of New Franklin and Lisa (Jeff) Fetherston of Barberton. He also leaves many great- nephews and nieces.

A private memorial service took place at the Ciriello and Carr Falls Chapel, followed by interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The family requests any donations take the form of donations to The Haven of Rest, 175 E. Market St., Akron 44308.

ALTHEA L. MASON

Member of United Presbyterian Church

Althea L. Mason, 85, died March 31, 2008.

Born in Johnstown, Pa. in 1922, Mrs. Mason had been a Cuyahoga Falls resident since 1953. She was a member of the Cuyahoga Falls United Presbyterian Church and had worked at the Akron Electronic Supply Co. for more than 14 years.

Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by her husband Dean in 1990, brothers Zane and Alfred Bowser, and sister Norma Lucy. She is survived by her sons Gregory of Wadsworth and Douglas of Arizona; sister Marlene Rice of Virginia; and three grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. Entombment of ashes took place at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. McGowan-Reid and Santos Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
