Trucker cited, two injured in Route 8 crash

A 61-year-old Falls man driving a semi tractor-trailer was cited for failure to control after being involved in a three-vehicle crash April 7. Shortly after 6 a.m. on state Route 8 northbound south of the Hudson Drive on-ramp, the driver of the semi, traveling north in the center lane, attempted to change to the right lane and clipped the left rear bumper of a 2002 Chevy Cavalier being driven by a 56-year-old Akron man.

The Akron man lost control and spun around in the center lane and into the left lane where he collided with the rear of a 2000 Dodge Caravan driven by a 39-year-old Canton man, the report stated. The Akron man hit the median where he came to a stop.

The Canton man's van skidded across the center and right lanes, hit a curb and came to rest on its driver's side facing south. The semi had come to a stop in the berm. The drivers from Akron and Canton were transported to Akron City Hospital. The north bound lanes of Route 8 were closed briefly so the fire department could clean up debris in the roadway.

Accidents

April 4 -- Failure to control. A 27-year-old Akron man was cited for failure to control following a crash at 11:30 a.m. Traveling east on Graham Road, the Akron man, driving a 1992 Chevy S10 Blazer with two passengers, was stopped at Graham Road Circle behind a 29-year-old Akron woman in a<FEFF> 2002 Dodge Durango. The woman started to pull forward and then suddenly stopped. According to the accident report, the man also started to pull forward but failed to stop in time and rear-ended the woman's vehicle, which was pulling a small utility trailer. The woman was transported to Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital with possible injuries.

April 3 -- Changing course. A 17-year-old Falls boy was cited for changing course after a crash at 4:50 p.m. on Front Street south of Bailey Road. According to the report, a 39-year-old Akron man was traveling south on Front Street when the Falls boy, also traveling south, began to merge from the right to left lane and struck the right-rear quarter panel of the man's car. There were no injuries.

April 2 -- Assured clear distance. A 61-year-old Stow man was cited for assured clear distance ahead following a 3 p.m. crash at Steels Corners Road west of State Road. The Stow man was traveling west on Steels Corners when, the accident report said, he failed to stop in time and rear-ended a car stopped in traffic. The driver of the other car, a 17-year-old Doylestown girl, was transported with possible injuries to Akron Children's Hospital.

Criminal simulation

April 7 -- Bad bill. The manager of a business in the 600 block of Howe Road reported someone between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. March 6 paid for store merchandise with a counterfeit $20 bill. It was determined counterfeit at the close of business March 6. It is unknown which customer passed the fake bill. The case has been turned over to the Secret Service.

Thefts

April 5 --Unauthorized use. A Falls<FEFF> woman reported at 9:30 p.m. that someone she doesn't know used her checking account number to make purchases totaling $283The woman did not know when those purchases were made. Police are following up on leads.

April 4 -- Dine & dash. The manager of a restaurant in the 100 block of Howe Avenue reported six females left at 8:30 p.m. without paying their bill which totaled $61.38. Police are reviewing in-store video as part of the investigation.

April 4 -- Shoplifter caught. A 20-year-old Akron woman was arrested and charged with theft<FEFF> at 10 p.m. at a store in the 400 block of Howe Avenue after a store employee said she attempted to steal $102.44 worth of merchandise that included jewelry, sunglasses, perfume, makeup and underwear. She was detained by store security.

April 3 -- Hot merchandise. A 73-year-old Falls<FEFF> woman was arrested and charged wth theft at 5:21 p.m. at a grocery store in the 2200 block of State Road after a manager witnessed her eat a $1.89 bowl of chili and then try to leave without paying. She was issued a summons and released.

Domestic violence

April 5 -- Sibling abus. A Falls woman reported her d son struck her 13-year-old daughter in the face with a USB cord and then hit her in the arm with the cord from a vacuum cleaner. The boy was arrested and charged with domestic violence. The girl did not require medical treatment.

Drug overdose

April 4 -- Medical attention needed. A man reported his wife said she had swallowed approximately 30 Tramadol pills at 6 p.m. She was transported to St. Thomas Hospital.

Criminal damaging

April 3 -- Pane to replace. The night custodian at Cuyahoga Falls High School reported at 7:45 p.m. that someone between 3 and 7 p.m. broke the glass covering of a clock on the wall behind the south basketball hoop in the old gymnasium. Damage was estimated at $50. With no leads, the case is open but inactive.

Disorderly conduct

April 3 -- Can't sleep here. A 43-year-old Falls<FEFF> woman, reportedly intoxicated, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after she refused to leave a Cathedral Lane apartment complex where she was found sleeping on a couch in the lobby.
