ESPN football commentator visits church

March 23, 2008

Saturday night prime time college football games - Florida vs. South Carolina; West Virginia University vs. Pitt; and the Michigan-Florida Capital One Bowl game. These are just a few of the games that Todd Blackledge broadcast last season on ESPN.

Blackledge will speak on "Faith, Family and Football" at the Community of Believers Christian Church, 2543 State Road in Cuyahoga Falls, on March 27 at 7 p.m. The community is invited and admission is free.

Blackledge, a former quarterback in the National Football League with the Kansas City Chiefs from 1983 to 1987 and with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1988 and 1989, was also an academic All-American and guided the Penn State Nittany Lions to a 29-4 record. His resume included three New Year's Day Bowl victories, including the 1983 Sugar Bowl in which Penn State beat Georgia and captured the national championship.

Blackledge joined ESPN in 2006 as the color analyst for the network's Saturday night prime time college football telecasts. He previously spent several years broadcasting for CBS, ABC and the Big East Television Network as both a game and studio analyst.

In the spring of 1997, Blackledge was elected to the Academic All-American Hall of Fame, with Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno serving as his presenter.

In January, he received the prestigious NCAA Silver Anniversary Award at the national convention in Nashville, Tenn.

Todd and his wife, Cherie, have four sons, Harrison, Quinn, Eli and Owen. The Blackledges reside in Canton.
