Man surrenders after allegedly firing gun, pleads not guilty

A Nutwood Avenue man has pleaded not guilty to several charges after was arrested after he allegedly came home drunk and fired three shots into the air Feb. 25.

A resident reported at 8 p.m. she saw her neighbor fire the gun while standing in front of his home and arguing with his wife who was inside with their two children. According to Capt. Thomas Pozza, the man was in the house when police arrived. Using a cruiser's public address system, officers coaxed the man out of his house. Pozza said the man came home intoxicated.

The man, 31, was arrested for alleged inducing panic, discharging a firearm in the city, and having a firearm while under disability. The third charge is a third-degree felony. He said officers confiscated a 9mm Glock handgun which was used in the incident, as well as a shotgun and crossbow found in the house.

Pozza said it took less than an hour to get MacLellan to surrender, so it wasn't necessary to call in the SWAT team.

The man was arraigned on Feb. 26, according to the Falls Clerk of Courts Office, pleading not guilty to all charges. He was in Summit County Jail as of Feb. 27, having failed to post a $50,000 (10 percent) bond. A court spokesperson said the man will appear in Falls Municipal Court March 4 for a pre-trial hearing.

Assault

Feb. 23 -- Assailant caught. A Middlebranch man was arrested Feb. 23 following an incident at 2:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of State Road. The man was arrested for alleged obstructing official business and assault. He allegedly struck a Falls woman in the face with his fists, causing swelling and minor bleeding to her lower lip. The victim was treated at the scene and not transported. The obstructing official business charge stems from the man allegedly trying to flee police on foot prior to his arrest.

Feb. 23 -- Man trouble. At 3:15 a.m. a Tallmadge woman assaulted a Clyde Avenue woman. Reportedly, the argument started when she thought her boyfriend was cheating on her with two other women. Words were exchanged and hair was pulled, but there were no injuries, the report stated. No charges were filed. The boyfriend, a 31-year-old Falls man who was at the scene, was arrested, however, on a warrant from Falls Police for failure to comply with a DUI charge.

Theft

Feb. 25 -- Valuable metals. A business in the 1400 block of Main Street reported that some time between Feb. 19 and Feb. 25, someone removed seven catalytic converters, one transmission and approximately 30 gallons of fuel from company vehicles. The estimated loss is $2,490. There are no leads, but the investigation continues.

Feb. 24 -- Couldn't stop at one. A 24-year-old Falls man was arrested for stealing after he allegedly entered a gas station in the 1200 block of State Road two times, at 3:09 p.m. and 5:11 p.m., each time taking a 20-ounce Corona beer without paying.

Domestic Dispute

Feb. 24 -- Family fight. Police responded to a dispute in the 1700 block of 14th Street between an 18-year-old woman and her parents. The argument was reportedly over a family matter. All parties told officers there was no physical violence or threats that took place, nor was there a need for future police intervention.

Feb. 23 -- Abuse reported. A Cliffside Street man reported his wife punched him in the left arm several times during an argument. They had conflicting stories and were intoxicated, police said. The man had a slight red mark on his arm.

Burglary

Feb. 22 -- Meds taken. Police were called to Cathedral Lane where a resident reported that some time between 11:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. someone pried open her front door, rummaged through her things and stole 14 Fentanyl pain relief patches from her headboard. The loss was valued at $750. Police have no leads or suspects; investigation continues.

Feb. 21 -- Ring, Ipods stolen. A diamond ring, two Apple Ipods and an adapter were reported stolen from a home in the 1700 block of 25th. Street between 1930 Feb. 16 and 9 a.m. Feb. 18. There were no signs of forced entry. Police are investigating.

Arson

Feb. 21 -- Flame job. The owner of a business in the 2700 block of 12th Street reported someone, some time between 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20 and 11:30 a.m. Feb. 21 broke out the passenger side window of the company's 2005 Ford van and tried to start the interior on fire. Damages were estimated at $500.
