St. Luke's
Lutheran Church
St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2121 Sixth St., will host Wednesday evening Lenten services every week at 7. This year the services will focus on Jesus's Beatitudes as applied to people's Lenten journey today.
On Feb. 27, "The Promise of Righteousness," will be explored.
During the fourth week of Lent, March 5, the theme will be "The Promise of Mercy."
The Wednesday Lenten services will conclude on March 12 with discussion of "The Promise of Seeing God."
Redeemer
Lutheran Church
Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2141 Fifth St., is hosting mid-week Lenten Worship Services each Wednesday at 7 p.m. through March 12. A free-will offering dinner will be served before each service from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m.
The church also invites community members for its regular worship services. A contemporary service takes place each Saturday at 6 p.m. Sunday services are at 8:45 a.m. (traditional Lutheran worship) and 11:15 a.m. (contemporary worship). Sunday School and adult Bible classes are also available at 10 a.m.
Northminster Presbyterian Church
Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, Cuyahoga Falls, is hosting Lenten programs and services.
The church will host a bread and broth simple meal every Wednesday at 6 p.m. through March 12. The simple meal is followed by a series of tapes by Amy Jo Levine titled "What's God Up To? Bible Stories Through New Eves." Carol Pocock, a church member, will then lead a discussion.
There will be a Maundy Thursday service on March 20 at 7 p.m., with communion by intinction. The Rev. Dr. Joseph W. Atkins Jr. will be the pastor for that service.
Good Friday will be observed with an opportunity for quiet meditation in the sanctuary from 1 to 3 p.m. There will also be a meditation guide available.
The church is having its 2008 All You Can Eat spaghetti dinners. An Alfredo sauce will be available, as well as extra meaty and marinara sauce. The cost will be $7, which includes spaghetti, salad, pie, bread and a drink. Dinner will be served on the following Fridays: March 14, April 11 and May 9 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Northminster sponsors a non-denominational Christian youth club, the Pioneers, which gathers at 6 p.m. Thursdays for fun, learning, crafts, music and snacks. Participants can earn badges in Bible study.
Community members can support the church's youth programming by recycling. Newspapers, magazines, catalogs, junk mail and envelopes can be deposited in the recycling bin.
The Northminster Craft Guild meets at the church on the third Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees should bring their current project, a sack lunch, and a friend.

First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls
First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, is exploring "The Music of the Heart" this Lenten season and will have a Lenten service on Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. featuring the Stairwell Singers, presenting a program of anthems focused on the message of the cross including "Love Lifted Me" and other anthems. A fellowship time will follow. Child care available. An offering will be taken for the mission projects the church supports. On March 5 there will be African-American spirituals by the Chancel Ringers, Epworth and Wesley Youth Choirs and several soloists and ensembles. On March 12 the adult Chancel Choir will be presenting anthems based on the prayer, "Kyrie eleison."
Men of the community are invited to Men's Time Out, a group of Christian men who meet the first Saturday of the month for breakfast and discussion at the church. The March 1 discussion will be "Men as Role Models." The meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. and runs for one hour. United Presbyterian Church
Pastor Ross Slaughter continues with his series on modern day discipleship by taking a look at the "Cost of Discipleship" during the season of Lent. On Feb. 24, Pastor Slaughter's message is drawn from Matthew 25, the Parable of the Ten Young Women, and is entitled, "The Disciples Source: The Holy Spirit."
United Presbyterian offers two distinct styles of worship. The traditional service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation contemporary service starts at 11 a.m. The educational hour is between the two services beginning at 9:45 a.m. with small group ministry for all ages. Child care is available on Sunday morning. Parking is available on church property. All are welcome.
After each of the services a reception will take place for Marie Taylor, director of Choral and Music Development, thanking her for her two years of service to the congregation as she moves on.
Also, on Feb. 24 from 7 to 8 p.m. the Middle School and Senior High Youth Ministries meet.
PrayerLab is scheduled for Feb. 26. PrayerLab is an opportunity to pray and to be prayed for. Anyone can come to the church sanctuary any time between 7 and 8:30 p.m. This will also give participants a chance to engage in discussion about how to have an effective prayer life. The format is open, with no fixed agenda or liturgy, so as to be Spirit-led.
Wednesday Night Alive! runs from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. with a family style supper at 6 p.m. More information can be obtained from the church's Web site (see below) for a full description of course offerings. This is week eight of a ten-week program. The theme this week is: "Safari Night."
Throughout the season of Lent the church will be selling handmade olive wood carvings made by Palestinian Christians to benefit this small, Middle Eastern community of believers in the Holy Land. Those interested can come to the church from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. during the week.

First United Methodist Church of Akron
First United Methodist Church of Akron, 263 E. Mill St. (parking and entrance in rear of building), will have Lenten fish dinners Feb. 29 and March 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be fried or baked cod, baked chicken breast, potatoes, cole slaw, cake and beverage. The price is $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 3 to 12. Tickets can be purchased through the church office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or at the door.

Pilgrim United
Church of Christ
The youth of Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 130 Broad Blvd., are continuing their Lenten journey to Easter by learning to be better disciples for Jesus. Each Sunday morning at 9:30 the children meet in "The Sacred Gathering Place" (Room 28) for singing, prayers, scripture reading, and lessons on the symbols and traditions of Lent. Matthew 6:25-33, and Matthew 25:4-46 provide the Biblical background for these lessons. Pilgrim invites all area youths to this program.
At the 9:30 a.m. time, adults are also continuing their Lenten journey by going to the Pilgrim library for discussion and coffee, or by going to the Heritage Room for coffee and quiet reflection.
Regular Sunday morning worship services take place in the sanctuary at 10:30 a.m. It is followed by a coffee hour in the social hall. Pilgrim is a handicap accessible church.
On Tuesday mornings at 10, Bible study meets in the library.
On Wednesday evenings at 7, Pilgrim's Pastor Kirk Bruce, leads a beginner's Bible study about Biblical themes in the Pilgrim Heritage Room. New members are always welcome.
Tuesdays and Thursday after school, Pilgrim provides a Homework Helper Program for students from DeWitt Elementary School.
On March 9, the singles group will meet at the church at 6 p.m. to go bowling. This is a nondenominational group for any single person between the ages of 30 and 65. Participants will pay for their own bowling and food at this event.

Church of Christ
Bethany United Church of Christ, 1235 Broad Blvd., announces the following programs and services:
On Feb. 24, the church will host Family Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. worship service. The children's choirs, The Young Shepherds; and the Son Singers will be singing "Do Lord." Also, first and second graders will be reading the liturgy.
Bethany will participate again in Walk a Mile in My Shoes, a fundraiser for Interfaith Hospitality Network.
It will take place Feb. 24 at Firestone Park United Methodist Church, 250 N. Firestone Park Blvd. Registration is at 2 p.m. and the walk begins at 3 p.m.
There will be music, door prizes and a one-mile walk.
It is happening in February so participants can think about the homeless families that are on the streets in the winter months.
