Redeemer Lutheran Church

Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2141 Fifth St., Cuyahoga Falls, is hosting mid-week Lenten Worship Services each Wednesday at 7 p.m. through March 12. A free-will offering dinner will be served before each service from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m.

A contemporary service takes place each Saturday at 6 p.m. Sunday services are at 8:45 a.m. (traditional Lutheran worship) and 11:15 a.m. (contemporary Worship). Sunday School and Adult Bible classes are also available at 10 a.m.

Falls Berean Bible Church

St. Luke's Lutheran Church

St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2121 Sixth St., will host Wednesday evening Lenten services every week at 7 p.m. This year the services will focus on Jesus's Beatitudes as applied to people's Lenten journey today.

On the second Wednesday of Lent, Feb. 20, the focus will be on "The Promise of an Inheritance."

On Feb. 27, "The Promise of Righteousness," will be explored.

During the fourth week of Lent, March 5, the theme will be "The Promise of Mercy."

The Wednesday Lenten services will conclude on March 12 with discussion of "The Promise of Seeing God."

Northminster Presbyterian Church

Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, is having its 2008 All You Can Eat spaghetti dinners. An Alfredo sauce will be available, as well as extra meaty and marinara sauce. The cost will be $7, which includes spaghetti, salad, pie, bread and a drink. Dinner will be served on the following Fridays: March 14, April 11 and May 9 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Northminster sponsors a non-denominational Christian youth club, the Pioneers, which gathers at 6 p.m. Thursdays for fun, learning, crafts, music and snacks. First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls

First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, is exploring "The Music of the Heart" this Lenten season and will have a Lenten service on Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. featuring a hymn sing of the hymns of Charles Wesley. A fellowship time will follow. Child care available. An offering will be taken for the mission projects the church supports. Other Wednesday Lenten services are: Feb. 27 the Stairwell Singers will perform; March 5 will be the 40 - member Chancel Choir performing African American spirituals and March 12 they will be presenting anthems based on the prayer, "Kyrie eleison."

A Daddy-Daughter Dance will take place at the church on Feb. 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Wesley Hall. Participants will enjoy music, dancing, snacks, beverages and lots of fun for all. Tickets are $3 each and are available at the door.

"Loving Well" is the theme of a women's weekend retreat sponsored by the church, on March 7 through 9 at Camp Asbury near Hiram. All women are welcome to attend this retreat that focuses on a study by best-selling author and teacher, Beth Moore. Cost of the weekend is $82. Register by calling 330-923-5241 ext. 210 by Feb. 27.

United Presbyterian Church

Pastor Ross Slaughter continues with his series on modern day discipleship by taking a look at the "Cost of Discipleship" during the season of Lent. This Sunday Pastor Slaughter's message is drawn from Luke14.25-33 and is entitled, "Counting the Cost." Emphasis is placed on what it means to carry Jesus' cross - the emblem and power of a joyful and God-filled life that glorifies God.

United Presbyterian offers two distinct styles of worship. The traditional Service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation contemporary service starts at 11 a.m. The educational hour is between the two services beginning at 9:45 a.m. with small group ministry for all ages. Childcare is available on Sunday morning. Parking is convenient on church property. All are welcome.

The Craft and Hobby Night will be Feb. 17, at the church from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Participants bring their craft projects and work in a friendly social environment.

The Middle School and Senior High Youth Ministries meet this Sunday evening from 7 to 8 p.m.

PrayerLab will take place on Feb. 19. PrayerLab is an opportunity to pray and to be prayed for. Anyone can come to the church sanctuary any time between 7 to 8:30 p.m. This will also give participants a chance to engage in discussion about how to have an effective prayer life. The format is open, with no fixed agenda or liturgy, so as to be Spirit-led.

Wednesday Night Alive! runs from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. with a family style supper at 6 p.m. More information can be obtained from the church's Web site (see below) for a full description of course offerings. This is week seven of a ten week program this mid-winter. The theme this week is: "Horrible Hair Night."

The UPC 2008 Women's Retreat will take place at the Loyola of the Lakes Jesuit Retreat House, 700 Killinger Road, Clinton, from 7 p.m., Feb. 22, through 7 p.m. Feb. 23. The theme is "Pressing Past our Fears," led by Sheila Slaughter, using the resources of national speaker Beth Moore. The cost is $50. Registration can be made by contacting the church office.

Throughout the season of Lent the church will be selling handmade olive wood carvings made by Palestinian Christians to benefit this small, Middle Eastern community of believers in the Holy Land. Those interested can come to the church from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. during the week.

Pilgrim United Church of Christ

Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 130 Broad Boulevard in Cuyahoga Falls, invites community members to study the word of God. On Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. children may attend L.I.G.H.T. ( Learning in God's House Together ). During this time adults may choose between two different ways to study God's word. Discussion and coffee are offered in the Pilgrim Library, or adults may go to the Heritage Room for coffee and quiet meditation.

The first Sunday after Easter a third choice for adults will be added to the 9:30 Sunday morning format. A new book group will begin discussing "Yes, Lord I have Sinned But I Have Several Excellent Excuses," by James Moore. To assure that enough books are ordered interested people are asked to call the church to sign up for this book group.

Sunday Worship Service begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Pilgrim sanctuary and is followed by a social hour in the Social Hall. Rev. Kirk Bruce is Pilgrim's Pastor.

Pilgrim is sponsoring a four-part series, "Living with Money" beginning Feb. 17. Each one-hour session will begin after Sunday worship and will include a light lunch, a 20-minute video, and discussion. Interested people may call the church to register for this series.

Women's Friendship Circle invites all women to their monthly meetings, which take place the third Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. On Feb. 21, Friendship Circle will have a game night.

Bethany United Church of Christ

Bethany United Church of Christ, 1235 Broad Blvd., announces the following programs and services:

Join the church Wednesdays as Lent continues with the midweek worship. The Psalms are the church's prayer book. This year each of the midweek Lenten Services will be a reflection on a Psalm and one of the choirs will share their talent. Services begin at 6:30, end by 7:30 p.m. and include soup and bread from the Bethany cooks.

Last Saturday, the church's Esperanza Mission Group left for Mexico. Nineteen members of the Bethany family are helping a Mexican family build a simple home. The Sixth Annual Chili Cook-Off will be Feb. 17 after the 10:30 church service. Many great chili recipes are served and proceeds will benefit Bethany Kitchen. Our Women's Fellowship will meet Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. in the lounge. All are welcome as Rev. Sharon Alberson shares her ministry and music.

The Men's Breakfast is a time for men of the church to get together to share faith, food, and fellowship together; as well as a few chores with which the custodians could use some help. Church of the Annunciation

Church of the Annunciation's famous Lenten fish fry will take place every Friday through March 14, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults, $7.50 for seniors, and $3.75 for children 12 and younger. Menu includes baked or fried fish; scalloped potatoes, French fries, or macaroni and cheese; and coleslaw or applesauce. Pie will be available for purchase.
