Two events are planned for Oct. 6 at the Natatorium: Member Appreciation Day and Health Fair for Kids.
Beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the auxiliary gym, the Natatorium will host a member appreciation continental breakfast as children's health and wellness exhibits are visited in the first Health Fair for Kids. The premier of the new Fit Kid Experience youth fitness program will then take place, as well as the introduction of the Future Fitness Club, a sub-program of the Fit Kid Experience being offered at the Natatorium in cooperation with Akron Children's Hospital and Kohl's.
Special acknowledgments and presentations will begin at 10 a.m. and will feature Falls Mayor Don Robart; Bill Considine, CEO and president of Akron Children's Hospital; and Kathleen Rice, president and COO of Summa Health System Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital, which furnished the Natatorium's new youth fitness room that is to be the centerpiece of the Fit Kid Experience.
The superintendents of the two local school systems will also be on hand -- Dr. Edwin Holland of Cuyahoga Falls Schools and Dr. Jeff Graham of Woodridge Schools. Bill Schutte, vice president and district manager of Kohl's will be making a special presentation to Akron Children's Hospital. Also in attendance will be Dr. Troy Smurawa, medical director of Youth Fitness at Akron Children's Hospital, who will describe the first component of the partnership between Children's, Kohl's and the Natatorium, called the Future Fitness Club at the Natatorium.
Robart will proclaim the day "Fit Kid Day" and present proclamations to the city's partners in youth fitness. Youth representatives from grades 3 through 5 of all elementary schools in Cuyahoga Falls will also be in attendance to take an Oath of Fitness with the mayor.
"I am proud that Cuyahoga Falls is leading the way in the youth fitness movement by partnering with our schools and private enterprise to fight childhood obesity and promote health and wellness among our children," said Robart. "The Fit Kid Experience at the Natatorium is our latest endeavor in continuing to meet the growing fitness needs of our community."
Drawings for free memberships to the Natatorium will begin immediately following the presentations.
