Cleveland -- The former doctor and alleged bomb maker who was injured in an explosion last year in his Cuyahoga Falls apartment changed his plea in federal court Sept. 2.

Mark A. Campano, 57, of Cuyahoga Falls, entered a guilty plea to possession of a non-registered destructive weapon, said Matthew B. Kall, assistant United States attorney. Sentencing was set for Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. He could get 10 years in prison but is likely to receive less under sentencing guidelines.

Donald Hicks, Campano's attorney, declined to comment.

U.S. District Court Judge Donald Nugent presided over the change of plea hearing in Cleveland.

Medical board records show the former anesthesiologist has practiced in Ohio and West Virginia and has a history of substance abuse.

No motive was mentioned in court. Campano's mother says he never intended to harm anyone.

Campano was arrested last November after an explosion rocked his Center Avenue apartment, causing injuries to his left hand and legs, according to police. Inside his apartment, officers found about 35 pipe bombs, 17 rifles and pistols, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

He pleaded not guilty in January to possession of a non-registered destructive device.
