United Presbyterian Church United Presbyterian offers two types of worship. The traditional service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation contemporary service starts at 11 a.m. The Educational Hour, including "Amazement Park" for elementary school-age children, is from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Child care for babies and toddlers is available throughout the Sunday morning activities. PrayerLab will meet Aug. 31 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PrayerLab is a ministry that focuses in on participants' prayer needs and helps participants grow in effective prayer. Bethany United Church of Christ Bethany Buckeyes (for ages 50 and older) start their monthly meetings Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. After dinner, they play cards, board games and dominos. To obtain table reservation forms and complete information about this Craft Fair, please call Carolyn at 330-928-6721. Northminster Presbyterian Church The Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, invites the community to its Sunday morning worship service at 10:30. Aug. 29 is the last of the church's outdoor services, called B.Y.O.C. (Bring Your Own Chair), where the congregation will meet in the memorial grove, beyond the pavilion. The Rev. Crossland will focus on "The Choice to Love," and Mary Anne Beach will play the Irish whistle. Also, immediately following the outdoor service, the congregation will serve a variety of ice cream and toppings in the pavilion to mark the end of summer. In the event of rain, the service will move inside to the sanctuary. Throughout September, the Rev. Crossland will speak on "When Everyone Knows Your Business," "Exhibit A," "God Knows Your Heart" and "Lasting Impressions." The Adult Sunday School Class will begin on Sept. 12 at 9:15 a.m. in the church lounge. Children's Sunday School will also begin on Sept. 12 for children ages 6-10. They will meet during the worship service, following "A Moment with the Children." Children through kindergarten meet in the child care room each Sunday morning. The church's first spaghetti dinner of the fall season will be on Sept. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. The dinner includes spaghetti with marinara, chunky meat sauce or special Alfredo sauce, salad, bread, dessert and coffee, punch or tea. The cost still remains at $7 for adults, $3.50 for children 6-12 and free for children 5 and under. On Sept. 11, the Presbyterian Women of Northminster will welcome a survivor of the World Trade Center, on the ninth anniversary of that tragic day. He will speak of his vivid recollections and give an inspiring story of his strong faith and miraculous escape that day. All are welcome to attend, at 1 p.m. in the church sanctuary. A free will offering will be taken to benefit Good Neighbors of Cuyahoga Falls. The Pioneer Club, a Bible-based activities program for children ages 4 through seventh grade, will begin meeting on a new night this year. Their first meeting will be on Sept. 15, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The children will work toward earning badges in Bible study, nature study and life skills, and will enjoy music and snacks. The ladies of the church meet on the first Wednesday of each month for a Bible-based study and fellowship. All are welcome on Sept. 1, to join either the Rebecca Circle at 9:15 a.m. or the Ruth Circle at 1 p.m. The Men's Fellowship will resume their meetings on the second Monday of each month. Their next meeting will be Sept.13 at 6 p.m., for a supper and interesting program. The Adult Bible Study will once again meet every Tuesday at 10 a.m. beginning Sept. 14. Northminster Church is a "two cents for hunger" church, where the church collects two cents for every meal the congregation eats in a month. It is then collected on the second Sunday of each month in the hopes of helping local agencies in their battle against hunger. "Good Neighbors Sunday" is also the second Sunday of each month, when the church tries to fill its grocery cart with non-perishable food items and brown grocery bags. First United Methodist Church "Touching the Water" is a 10-week opportunity for those who would like to recommit themselves to church participation, would just like a refresher course in basic Christian beliefs, or would like to join First Church. The evening starts with a light supper at 5:45 and will include a class on Christian basics and small group sharing.
