Stow Montessori and Child Care, 4117 Bridgewater Parkway, announces the return of its Montessori preschool program for 3-6 year olds.
The Montessori classroom is arranged into five areas: practical life, sensorial, mathematics, language arts, and geography and culture. The children are taught how to use the materials and then are free to choose the materials they want to work with.
Dr. Maria Montessori, the method's founder, believed that this respect for the child was basic to learning. The mixed-age grouping also allows younger children to learn from their older classmates. This is a reflection of the family and is an important part of establishing the classroom community.
