by Steve Wiandt Reporter A Summit County Grand Jury has indicted a Falls man in the murder of his father in July. David Scott Shoemaker, 60, was arrested July 13 and charged with murder in connection with the death of his father, Richard H. Shoemaker, 85, according to Falls police. Shoemaker was arrested at the house on 26th Street where he lived with his parents. His arraignment in Summit County Common Pleas Court was scheduled for Aug. 27, according to court records. Information on the arraignment was not available at press time. The indictment was filed Aug. 23. Shoemaker was arraigned in Stow Municipal Court July 13 when bond was set at $1 million cash by Judge Kim R. Hoover. He's being held in Summit County Jail. On July 2, Falls police and paramedics responded to a 911 call placed by David Shoemaker, police said. "It was initially reported that the elder Shoemaker was found unconscious at the bottom of a stairwell leading down to the basement of the residence," said Falls Police Capt. Tom Pozza. The elder Shoemaker was pronounced dead at Akron City Hospital, said Gary Guenther, chief investigator for the Summit County Medical Examiner. The cause of death was blunt force trauma, Guenther said. Pozza said it was believed at that time of the 911 call that the elder Shoemaker died as a result of falling down the stairs. However, evidence from the crime scene "didn't add up," he said. Following further investigation, Shoemaker was arrested without incident. "He was very polite. It was kind of eerie," Capt. Pozza said. "When he was told he was under arrest for the murder of his father, he didn't even flinch. He just said, 'OK.' I think he expected it."
