Woodridge welcomes 10 new hires

Peninsula -- As the 2010-11 school year begins, Woodridge Local School District has two new administrators and eight new certified employees. All 10 have been approved by the Board of Education over the past four months.

Both of the new administrators are at Woodridge Intermediate School. Gretchen Lawn is the building's new principal, replacing Betsy Gorrell. Ashley Jurkowski is the Intermediate School's new guidance counselor, replacing Shannon Kaczor.

Also new at the Intermediate School are Amanda Garlesky, Title I tutor, and Maureen Faris, long-term substitute for special education teacher Jodi Crawfis.

Woodridge Middle School has a new art teacher in Nicole Rice who replaces Debbie Gottas. Sharon Risko is replacing Robin Donald as the music/choir teacher at the Middle School and High School.

Other new teachers at Woodridge High are Carole Avella, AP government, replacing Jim Swetter; Kimberly Caderwood, math, new position; Athena Demetriades, special education, replacing Betty Krozac; and Jenna Steyer, math, replacing Lois Patterson.

Also effective this year, teacher Stephanie Guernsey is transferring from first grade to kindergarten and Rose Marie Marsh, high school English, is increasing from part-time to full-time status.
