New event: Ice cream social for grandparents and grandkids

Grab your grandkids and come on down to the Quirk Cultural Center on Sept. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. for this fun, new event! The Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring an ice cream social for grandparents and grandkids that includes crafts and games, a keepsake photograph, and of course... loads of ice cream! Registration for this sweet treat has begun for residents and will begin Sept. 3 for non-residents. Cost is $6 for residents, $8 for non-residents. Space is limited, so register early. For more information or to register for this event, call the Quirk Cultural Center at 330-971-8425. Online registration is not available.

Dance fever

The Cuyahoga Falls Parks and Recreation Department is offering a Dance Fever Open Dance at the Quirk Cultural Center, 1201 Grant Ave. The evening will begin with a dance lesson from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m., featuring different dances. From 8:15 to 10:30 p.m., enjoy dancing to great music for swing, waltz, cha cha, tango, line dances and more. This event will take place Sept. 3. Fee is $10 per person, $6 for college students and seniors with ID. Singles and couples welcome. Pay at the door.

Adult ballet classes -- new session

The Parks and Recreation Department is offering Adult Ballet lessons at the Quirk Cultural Center, 1201 Grant Ave. The department is now offering a beginners class Thursdays from 9 to 10 a.m. and an intermediate class Tuesdays from 9 to 10:15 a.m. These classes are designed to promote good posture, self-confidence and grace, while teaching students how to strengthen and protect their bodies from injury. These one-hour classes will consist of traditional ballet barre, stretching exercises and mild ballet center floor combinations. All classes are four-week sessions with a new session beginning on Sept. 2 and Sept. 7. Fee is $8 for residents and $12 for non-residents, plus a class fee of $20 for one class or $35 for both classes (made payable to Jean Brady). All class fees must be paid at first class.

NFL punt, pass and kick competition - free

Young pro football fans will have the opportunity to exhibit their football skills when the Cuyahoga Falls Parks and Recreation Department hosts the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Price Elementary School, 2610 Delmore St. The competition is free and open to boys and girls ages 6 to 15. Registration will take place the day of the event at the site. Participants should bring a copy of their birth certificate and a parent to sign the permission form. No football spikes allowed.

Adult ceramics

Classes start the week of Sept. 13 and take place at the Quirk Cultural Center. New and experienced participants will benefit from individual attention to perfecting their skill.

Ceramics take place Monday or Tuesday nights from 7 to 9:30 p.m. There are many Halloween and holiday projects to choose from. Registration fee is $18 resident/$21 nonresident for a six-week session. Pottery takes place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays for six weeks from 7 - 9:30 p.m. Beginners start with handbuilding and work up to the wheel work. Registration fee is $60 resident/ $75 nonresident, which includes firing and glazes with clay an additional purchase.

Adult ceramics 'drop-in' Saturdays

Weekdays might be busy for you, so try a Saturday adult ceramic class. These drop-in classes are open to make quick projects or for one-time gifts. September dates are Sept. 11 and 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are many Halloween and Thanksgiving items along with useful household dishware. Cost is $7 for residents and $10 for non-residents per day
