United Presbyterian Church UPC will feature guest speaker Sarah Mariani as she speaks about her recent mission trip to Costa Rica this summer. Special music (first service) will be provided by the Stairwell Singers, under the direction of Tim Zuschin. United Presbyterian offers two types of worship. The traditional service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation contemporary service starts at 11 a.m. The Educational Hour, including "Amazement Park" for elementary school age children, is from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Child care for babies and toddlers is available throughout the Sunday morning activities. Parking is available on church property. All are welcome. PrayerLab will meet Aug. 24 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PrayerLab is a ministry that focuses in on participants' prayer needs and helps participants grow in effective prayer. No agenda or liturgy so as to be Spirit-led. On Aug. 25, the U.P.C. Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet in the church parlor from 6 to 7:30 p.m. On Aug. 27, members and friends of U.P.C. have the opportunity to work with Springtime of Hope, a ministry to the needy and homeless at St. Bernard's in Akron. Resurrection Night, an informal time of worship and praise for and led by post-high young adults, will be Aug. 28, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Northminster Presbyterian Church The Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, invites the community to its Sunday morning worship service at 10:30. On Aug. 22, Communion Sunday, the Rev. Stephanie Crossland will speak on "No Excuses." Aug. 29 is the last of the church's outdoor services, called B. Y. O. C. (Bring Your Own Chair), where the congregation will meet in the memorial grove, beyond the pavilion. Rev. Crossland will focus on "The Choice to Love," and Mary Anne Beach will play the Irish whistle. Also, immediately following the outdoor service, the congregation will serve a variety of ice cream and toppings in the pavilion to mark the end of summer. In the event of rain, the service will move inside to the sanctuary. Throughout September, the Rev. Crossland will speak on "When Everyone Knows Your Business," "Exhibit A," "God Knows Your Heart" and "Lasting Impressions." The Adult Sunday School Class will begin on Sept. 12 at 9:15 a.m. in the church lounge. Children's Sunday School will also begin on Sept. 12 for children ages 6-10. They will meet during the worship service, following "A Moment with the Children." Children through kindergarten meet in the child care room each Sunday morning. The church's first spaghetti dinner of the fall season will be on Sept. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. The dinner includes spaghetti with marinara, chunky meat sauce or special Alfredo sauce, salad, bread, dessert and coffee, punch or tea. The cost still remains at $7 for adults, $3.50 for children 6-12 and free for children 5 and under. On Sept. 11, the Presbyterian Women of Northminster will welcome a survivor of the World Trade Center, on the ninth anniversary of that tragic day. He will speak of his vivid recollections and give an inspiring story of his strong faith and miraculous escape that day. All are welcome to attend, at 1 p.m. in the church sanctuary. A free will offering will be taken to benefit Good Neighbors of Cuyahoga Falls. The ladies of the church meet on the first Wednesday of each month for a Bible-based study and fellowship. All are welcome on Sept. 1, to join either the Rebecca Circle at 9:15 a.m. or the Ruth Circle at 1 p.m. The Men's Fellowship will resume their meetings on the second Monday of each month. Pilgrim United Church of Christ Pilgrim United Church of Christ invites community members to grow in their faith this Sunday through Christian Education at 9:30 a.m. or to experience the living presence of God through worship at 10:30 a.m. The church on the corner of Broad Boulevard and Second Street is handicap accessible. (Learning In God's House Together) -- the church's children's Sunday School program -- is on a short summer break. The group will not be gathering at 9:30 a.m. in August. Faith Focus will be offered for ages 3 through grade 2 during morning worship following the children's sermon. Groups that meet weekly at Pilgrim include: Adult Bible Study, Tuesdays at 10 a.m.; Emotions Anonymous, Thursdays at 8 p.m.; Alcoholics Anonymous, Saturdays at 8 p.m. Pilgrim also hosts Free Community Lunch the second Saturday of every month. The next date to enjoy a complimentary hot meal with the community is Sept.11 at noon. The Evangelism Board invites community members to an outdoor movie night featuring the film, "Little Manhattan" on Aug. 22 at 8:30 p.m. "Little Manhattan" is a feel-good comedy that's perfect for kids and adults alike. In a city known for excitement, two young friends are about to embark on the greatest adventure of all. Filled with all the magical, marvelous and maddening moments of first love, this charming film is fun for the whole family. Adults and children of all ages are welcome to attend this "drive-in movie" experience at Pilgrim complete with an outdoor movie, playground access and popcorn! (In the case of inclement weather, the event will take place in the Social Hall.) First United Methodist Church "Touching the Water" is a 10-week opportunity for those who would like to recommit themselves to church participation, would just like a refresher course in basic Christian beliefs, or would like to join First Church. This group will meet each Wednesday evening beginning on Sept. 8. The evening starts with a light supper at 5:45 and will include a class on Christian basics and small group sharing. There is child care for infants - 3 years old or the R.O.C.K. program (directed activities for those children age 4 through sixth grade.) The church hopes this will be a place of support, encouragement and understanding as the group learns together what it means to be a true members of Christ's body, the church.
