Cuyahoga Falls -- The dog days of August are upon the Walsh Jesuit varsity football team as they embark on the 2010 season.

"We're in the middle of two-a-days," Warrior head coach Gerry Rardin said. "It's hard to practice but we have a scrimmage coming up and, overall, things have been good."

Senior Connor Cook returns at quarterback which Rardin really likes.

"We're really excited about him," Rardin said. "He has improved mentally and is one of our fastest players. He also has a really strong arm and is making great reads. He will play at Michigan State next year."

At one of the offensive tackle positions will be senior Adam Redmond (245 pounds). "He has several Division I offers," Rardin said.

The center will be senior Tim Shovlin (240), according to Rardin. Seniors John Manson (265) and Doug Krochka (260) will be the starting guards, Rardin said.

The other tackle spot will be given to junior Dane O'Driscoll (250), according to Rardin.

At tight end will be junior Kevin Enright (245).

"He has extremely soft hands," Rardin said.

Seniors Tyler Starkey and Aaron Barna will be the wide receivers. "Tyler was our leading receiver last year," Rardin said.

The fullback is junior Jack Meadows, according to Rardin. Juniors Brock Jones and Ryan Jun, along with sophomore Josh Kuehn will play at the tailback position, Rardin said.

On defense, Rardin has a lot of experience back starting with junior Trent Donald and senior Reed Remington at the defensive end spots.

Manson and fellow senior Anthony Melchiorre will play at defensive tackle, according to Rardin.

The middle linebackers are senior Vinny Pugliese and Jun, Rardin said.

At outside linebacker will be seniors Nick Borkey and Bill Sobnosky, according to Rardin.

Sophomore Doug Lewis and Barna are the safeties, Rardin said.

The cornerbacks will be Jones and Starkey, according to Rardin.

Senior Drew Kaser will do the punting while junior Ross Martin handles the placekicking duties.

Rardin's coaching staff this year includes: Dan Larlham (defensive coordinator), Scott Beigie (offensive line coach), Sean Lynch (defensive ends coach), Steve Grescovich (tight end coach), Andy Thomas (linebacker coach), James Duke (secondary coach), Bryan Beigie (wide receivers coach), Rick Massaro (running back coach) and Sam Fiorentino (assistant coach).

The season starts Aug. 27 at home versus Louisville at 7 p.m.

Last year, Walsh Jesuit finished the season at 5-4 and missed the state playoffs.
