by Steve Batko Correspondent After going 12-3 last year, the Cuyahoga Falls girls golf squad is hoping to fare better in postseason action. Mary Mozingo's team is 3-2 in dual meets as of press time thanks to a 189-206 home win over Brunswick at Brookledge Golf Course. Ashley Foster is the JV coach while Janie Geis is the varsity assistant. Returning for their fourth year will be seniors Meg Goubeaux, Courtney Konic, and Michelle Hughes. Back for a third season are juniors Ashley Cottrill and Audrey Kahooilihala. Returning for their second year will be sophomores Madison Alvis, Heather Bucur and Maddy Hendershot. "We have some experience back and we're looking forward to this season," said Mozingo. New players this year are sophomores Morgan Burgess and Alyssa Mondl plus freshmen Sam Cottrill and Mary Lowe. "Summer practice proved beneficial to the girls with Meg Goubeaux and Ashley Cottrill showing the most improvement," Mozingo said. Falls placed sixth out of 14 teams in the Division I sectional tournament at Gleneagles Golf Course in Twinsburg last year. In the Northeast Ohio Conference Tournament at Windmill Lakes, Falls placed third overall behind Nordonia and Stow. Combined with the regular season, Falls placed second overall in the River Division behind Nordonia. Stow finished in third place overall. Goubeaux, who fired a 97 to pace the Black Tigers in both post season meets, and Konic placed strong individually with all-league honors. In the win over Brunswick, Goubeaux fired a 42 to lead everyone. Cottrill carded a strong 46, Konic had a 48, and Alvis added a 53. Falls also posted wins in the first week of the season over Firestone and Lake while losing to Medina and Green. The Lady Black Tigers also competed in the Aug. 13 NOC Preseason tournament at Bunker Hill in Medina. The girls scored 400 to place ninth out of 12 teams as Strongsville and Hudson dominated the tourney. Goubeaux led with a 90 while Cottrill carded a 102, and Konic, 103. Hughes added a 105.
