Carol Richards Sharpe, mother of Christine Sharpe and Julie Sharpe Seck, died July 22, 2010 in Cuyahoga Falls. She was 88 years old. She leaves granddaughters Jennifer Seck; Rachel Seck Larimore; Kirstän Seck, and great-granddaughter Rain Seck. She also leaves her brother of 81 years, Don L. Richards. Mrs. Sharpe was a resident of Cuyahoga Falls until 1941, when she moved to New York and later with husband Garold Sharpe to Connecticut and Rhode Island. In 1969 she returned to The Falls where she lived until July 22, 2010. Mrs. Sharpe was an accomplished poet and artist. A memorial service took place in the Chapel of Good Shepherd, First Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls, the Rev. Katie Osier officiating. Donations may be made to charity of the donor's choice.

As a 17-year-old student at Cuyahoga Falls High School, Mrs. Sharpe, then Carol Richards, wrote the lyrics for the Cuyahoga Falls High School Alma Mater. Her friend and classmate, Mary Barnes Crutchfield, wrote the music.

When in New York, Mrs. Sharpe was a radio producer-program engineer for the Office of War Information Voice of America worldwide newscasts in World War II, responsible for overseas radio broadcasts in German, Russian and other languages.

After the war, she met and became friends with Anais Nin, noted novelist and short-story writer who lived in a penthouse in Greenwich Village. She was, for a time, secretary to noted sculptress Selma Burke who sculpted a bust frieze of Franklin D. Roosevelt which adorns the cornerstone of the Sub Treasury Building in Washington.

She married Garold Sharpe in 1946 and lived with her husband, who taught at the University of Connecticut and the University of Rhode Island. She returned to Ohio in 1969. She worked from 1970 to 1986 as ombudsman for patients at the Sagamore Hills Children's Psychiatric Hospital in Northfield.
