City's sewer project temporarily shortens Gorge Metro Park Trail

A sewer project that got under way last week will temporarily prevent hikers from enjoying the complete Gorge Metro Park Trail (1160 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls), which is on the Fall Hiking Spree that starts Sept. 1. Contractors for the city of Cuyahoga Falls are replacing sewer lines along the Cuyahoga River. The Gorge Trail will be closed after Mary Campbell Cave because of the work, shortening the 1.8-mile trail to about 3/4 mile, possibly through mid-September.

Questions about the sewer work should be directed to the Cuyahoga Falls Engineering Department at 330-971-8180.

The 47th annual Fall Hiking Spree runs Sept. 1 through Nov. 30. Complete eight designated trails to receive a hiking staff and commemorative shield. Rewards are free to Summit County residents, but out-of-county residents pay to receive their rewards. Hiking forms with the list of trails are available at summitmetroparks.org, the park district's administrative offices (975 Treaty Line Road, Akron) the visitors center at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm (1828 Smith Road, Akron) and all Acme Fresh Market stores.
