City provides update on natural gas program

Cuyahoga Falls city officials would like to offer an update on its natural gas aggregation program.

The new Vectren Source contract for natural gas went into effect May 1, according to city officials. The plan is a variable rate plan, with the option to fix a price. The August variable rate is $6.077/mcf (1,000 cubic feet) and the current fixed rate is $6.795/mcf, which includes the 10 percent discount from Vectren's current offer. Customers will automatically have variable pricing, with the rate changing each month based on the market, or fixed pricing is available by calling Vectren to enroll in the fixed rate program.

Customers may fix a rate at any time during the next 12 months (fixed rates may change over time). If customers choose to fix a rate today, they should call Vectren Source at 1-888-440-9580. Otherwise the rate will remain variable.

Current participants in the city's gas program and Dominion East Ohio customers paying the Standard Choice Offer (SCO) rate should have received a letter from Vectren Source explaining the program. If those customers have not received a letter, they should call Vectren Source at 1-888-440-9580 to verify their account status or ask to join the Cuyahoga Falls program. The previous natural gas contract with Direct Energy expired in April. If a customer's recent bill shows Direct Energy charges, this is not the city's aggregation program. Customers should call Vectren to join the city's aggregation program.
