Trinity United Church of Christ Hallelujah Service. Aug. 1 will be an open air service on the front lawn by the gazebo. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the fellowship. The service will be followed by a light lunch. If there is inclement weather the service will be moved to the sanctuary. Worship service will continue on the 10:30 a.m. schedule throughout the summer with announcements beginning at 10:20 in the Sanctuary. St. John's Episcopal Church St. John's supports the Good Neighbors every Sunday with donations of food items; however, the first two Sundays in August the church will be collecting school supplies for its annual School Drive. Cash donations will be gratefully accepted and used for shoes, clothing and school supplies. The Children's Chat is presented after the sermon at the 10 a.m. service. The Aug. 8 Chat will be "Pentecost, What Do We Inherit From God?" St. Margaret's picnic will be Aug. 12, 11:30 at Waterworks Park. A short business meeting will follow the lunch. Church in the Valley Church in the Valley, 2241 Everett Road, Peninsula, will have a fundraiser garage sale and bake sale Aug. 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Robert (Robie) Black family are members of Church in the Valley. Robie has been fighting a long battle against cancer. Help show love for this family, and find a treasure too. The event will offer many items at a low price. Grandview United Methodist Church Grandview United Methodist Church, 2315 Phelps Ave. is having the "Grandview Community Fun Fest 5K and Then Some" on Aug. 14 from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. The event starts with the 5K run and Kids Costumed Fun Run. The 5K $15 Entry fee includes T-shirt and race bib. Kids' Fun Run entry fee is one non-perishable food item to be donated to Cuyahoga Falls "Good Neighbors." Prizes go to the top three male/female winners for both races. Other children's activities planned throughout the day are Big Wheel Race/tricycle race, balloon toss, potato sack race, puppet show, cake walk, face painting, and a watermelon eating contest. Lunch and dinner will be served at no charge. On Aug. 15, the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service will take place under the big tent in the front yard followed by an ice cream social at no charge. Northminster Presbyterian Church The Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, invites the community to its Sunday morning worship service at 10:30. On Aug. 22, Communion Sunday, the Rev. Stephanie Crossland will speak on "No Excuses." Aug. 29 is the last of the church's outdoor services, called B. Y. O. C. (Bring Your Own Chair), where the congregation will meet in the memorial grove, beyond the pavilion. Rev. Crossland will focus on "The Choice to Love," and Mary Anne Beach will play the Irish Whistle. Also, immediately following the outdoor service, the congregation will serve a variety of ice cream and toppings in the pavilion to mark the end of summer. In the event of rain, the service will move inside to the sanctuary. The Northminster Book Club will continue to meet on the third Monday of each month at 1:15 p.m. in the church lounge. On Aug. 16, the club will be discussing "An Altar in the World" written by Barbara Brown Taylor. The Northminster Craft Guild meets on the third Wednesday and Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for any woman who is interested in any craft. The next meetings will be Aug. 18 and 21. L.I.G.H.T., Learning In God's House Together (the children's Sunday School program), is on a short summer break. The group will not be gathering at 9:30 a.m. for the months of July and August. Faith Focus will be offered for ages 3 through grade 2 during morning worship following the children's sermon. Groups that meet weekly at Pilgrim include: Adult Bible Study, Tuesdays at 10 a.m.; Emotions Anonymous, Thursdays at 8 p.m.; Alcoholics Anonymous, Saturdays at 8 p.m. Pilgrim will also host Free Community Lunch the second Saturday of every month. The next date to enjoy a complimentary hot meal with the community is Aug. 14 at noon. Looking for a place to park during Cuyahoga Falls' Rockin on the River? Park in the lot at a prime location on the corner of Second Street and Broad. All proceeds benefit Pilgrim's Free Community Lunch Program. Adventures with God Camp happens Aug. 9-11. It is open to children who have completed kindergarten through the sixth grade. The group leaves Monday from Pilgrim parking lot at 1:30 p.m. to travel to the Pastor's farm in southern Ohio. The Cuyahoga Falls Good Neighbors unit is asking the community to support their Annual School Drive to benefit the children in need within the area. This year's drive will take place Aug. 10-12. In addition to cash donations, the following items are needed: school boxes, pens/pencils, filler paper, backpacks, glue, scissors, markers, erasers, protractors, loose leaf binders, pocket folders, rulers, small dictionaries, and pencil sharpeners. Donations can be dropped off in the marked bin outside the church office. Pantry items currently needed include: canned fruit, cereal, noodles, jello, soaps, and detergent. Anyone interested in supporting Cub Scout Pack 3186 is invited to Donatos Eat & Earn on Aug. 12 from 4-9 p.m. A portion of dine-in or take out orders at Donatos on State Road will benefit the Cub Scouts. The Evangelism Board invites the community to an outdoor movie night featuring the film, "Little Manhattan," on Aug. 22 at 8:30 p.m. Little Manhattan is a feel-good comedy that's perfect for kids and adults alike. In a city known for excitement, two young friends are about to embark on the greatest adventure of all. Adults and children of all ages are welcome to attend this "drive-in movie" experience at Pilgrim complete with an outdoor movie, playground access and popcorn (In the case of inclement weather, the event will take place in the Social Hall). First United Methodist Church First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, offers a Weekday Preschool which is taking registrations for fall. The program offers morning and afternoon classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and is for ages 3 (potty trained), 4 and 5. First Church offers a Wednesday program for children called The R.O.C.K. (The Reality of Christ for Kids.) The program will run between 4:15 and 7 p.m. each Wednesday for preschoolers through sixth grade and offers choir, chimes, crafts, boomwhackers, cooking, puppets, chess, bells, Bible stories, mission projects, dinner and more. First Church offers an active program for teens on Sunday evenings September through May with special events in the summer, a camping program and yearly tour for members of the Epworth youth choir. Weekly meetings begin on Aug. 28 with choir at 5 p.m. followed by a Road Rally at 6 p.m. There will be a snack supper ($3). The evening ends at 8 p.m. All are welcome. Grace Summit Community Church Grace Summit Community Church is offering free backpacks with supplies for elementary students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Supplies are limited, so registration is required by calling the church at 330-922-3550 by Aug. 18. The backpacks will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 21 and 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 22. Bethany United Church of Christ Bethany United Church of Christ welcomes the community to worship with the community each Sunday at 8:30 (in the Social Hall) and 9:30 a.m. (in the Sanctuary). Nursery is available from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. The Mission Committee requests donations of school supplies for kids in Cuyahoga Falls (Good Neighbors) who need a hand in preparing for the new school year. The committee is also taking financial donations to help purchase supplies. The Rev. Sandy Hutchinson became a beloved friend of Bethany when she served here as Associate Pastor in the 1990s.
