SILVER LAKE VILLAGE
Theft, Breaking and Entering

Aug. 1 -- Teen charged in thefts from cars. Police charged a 17-year-old Silver Lake boy with three counts of theft and one count of breaking and entering in connection with reports of items being taken from unlocked vehicles at homes on Englewood Drive. Police said an Englewood Drive resident at about 3:30 a.m. called to say they saw someone inside their car parked in the driveway. When police arrived, the resident said they thought the person in the car was a 17-year-old boy who lived next door. Police went next door and the 17-year-old boy admitted to going into the neighbor's unlocked car. Police said the boy apologized and the neighbor did not press charges. At about 8 a.m., police were called to another home on Englewood for another report of a car being entered. Police said they went to the 17-year-old's house and the teenager admitted to going into this unlocked car, too. The 17-year-old told police he entered two unlocked cars that were inside a garage at a third home on Englewood. Both of those residents signed theft charges against the 17-year-old, and the boy's stepdad also signed a theft charge against the 17-year-old after the young man also admitted to going into his stepfather's unlocked car. According to police, the breaking and entering charge stems from the entry into the garage. Police said a house key was taken from the garage, but it is not known whether the suspect entered the home or not. Items taken from the cars included tools, insurance and vehicle registration papers, and CDs.
