St. John's Episcopal Church July 25 is the annual St. John's picnic at Water Works Park. The 10 a.m. service will be observed there, while the 8 a.m. service will take place at the church. The picnic is at Water Works Park in the Big Cuyahoga Shelter. Following the service and luncheon, games will be played for children and adults. Meat, table settings and beverages will be provided. Please bring a dish to share. The two-cents a meal mission money is usually turned in the last Sunday of the month, but since the picnic is at Water Works July 25, attendees are asked to bring their offering to church on Aug. 1. Soup's On will serve meals to those who are in need on July 31 starting at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome. The first two Sundays in August are designated for St. John's members to bring in school items for the Good Neighbors' Back to School Drive. Pictures will be taken for the pictorial directory at the picnic. Portraits will be taken Aug. 1 after the 10 a.m. service and the last will be taken between the 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. service on Aug. 15. Church in the Valley Church in the Valley, 2241 Everett Road, Peninsula, will have a fundraiser garage sale and bake sale Aug. 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Robert (Robie) Black family are members of Church in the Valley. Robie has been fighting a long battle against cancer. Help show love for this family, and find a treasure too. The event will offer many items at a low price. First Christian Church First Christian Church, home of the ADAM's Kids Fine Arts Summer Camp, would like to announce the upcoming production of "Splash Kingdom" on July 29 at 6:30 p.m. For seven weeks, children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade have been learning music, choreography, staging and creating art projects to prepare for the final production. ADAM's Kids is an acronym for Art, Drama and Music and was created four years ago to provide a fine arts experience for children in the community while studying Biblical lessons during the summer. This year has seen a record number of participants. "Splash Kingdom" is a musical about children who arrive at a water park, only to discover that the gates are closed because they do not have reservations with the head CEO. The Good Neighbors Back to School Drive was selected as the special mission project for ADAM's Kids. The children have been bringing in school supplies and monetary donations which will be donated to local children in need of school supplies. In lieu of purchasing tickets for the performance, a free will offering will be taken and donated to Good Neighbors. Following the performance, audience members are invited to a reception in the art gallery to view the art projects created by the children. First Christian Church is located at 2253 Third St. Northminster Presbyterian Church The Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, will continue throughout the summer to worship at the usual 10:30 a.m. Sunday time. Tickets are on sale now for the church's Swiss Steak Dinner on Aug. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Atkins Fellowship Hall. The cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12 and children 4 and younger are free. Tickets can be purchased in the church office during office hours (10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays). All boys and girls, ages 4 through fifth grade completed, are welcome to come and share in this week featuring Bible stories, songs, games, refreshments and crafts. First United Methodist Church Men of all ages are invited to a summer study each Sunday morning at 9:30 at First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail. They are exploring an EPIC (Experiential, Participatory, Image-rich, Connective) faith with "The Gospel According to Starbucks - Living with a Grande Passion." Northampton Bible Church Northampton Bible Church invites all children ages 4 through (going into) Grade 6 to attend Vacation Bible School. The program was slated for July, but has been postponed until August. On Aug. 1 through 5 from 6:30 to 8:40 p.m., children will have fun with a program called "High Seas Expedition: Exploring the Mighty Love of God!" The program is filled with Bible-learning experiences children will see, hear, touch and taste. Bethany United Church of Christ Bethany United Church of Christ welcomes the community to worship with the congregation each Sunday at 8:30 (in the Social Hall) and 9:30 a.m. (in the Sanctuary). The nursery is available from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. Camp Bethany/New Trinity begins July 25. The Mission Committee is requesting donations of school supplies for kids in Cuyahoga Falls (Good Neighbors) who need a hand in preparing for the new school year. The church is also taking financial donations to help purchase these supplies. Have donated items in by the end of July. The first Sunday of each month, Bethany's volunteer nurses offer blood pressure tests during social hour. Sandy Hutchinson became a beloved friend of Bethany when she served at the church as Associate Pastor in the 1990s. She's now serving as Chaplain at Chapel Hill Homes. Church officials are delighted that she's been able to arrange coming back to lead worship and preach at both services on Aug. 8. Grandview United Methodist Church Grandview United Methodist Church, 2315 Phelps Ave., is planning its first "Grandview Community Fun Fest 5K and Then Some" on Aug. 14 from 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. The event starts with the 5K run and kids costumed fun run. Other children's activities scheduled throughout the day are Big Wheel/tricycle race, balloon toss, potato sack race, puppet show, cake walk, face painting, watermelon eating contest and more. Rita's Italian Ice will be there with refreshments. A local jazz band will provide musical entertainment.
