Summa Western Reserve Hospital has been recognized by a multidisciplinary national accrediting organization for the caliber of the noninvasive testing it provides for the early detection and diagnosis of vascular disease that can lead to heart attack and stroke. Summa Western Reserve Hospital's Cardiovascular Department has again received a full, three-year accreditation from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) for its services in Peripheral Arterial Testing, Peripheral Venous Testing and Extracranial Cerebrovascular Testing. The designation makes Summa Western Reserve Hospital's program one of a select number of vascular laboratories in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico that meet or exceed the Commission's extensive standards that define the requirements for providing high quality care. The ICAVL is a non-profit organization established with the support of 11 medical societies including physicians, technologists and sonographers that represent medical specialties including cardiology, neurology, radiology, vascular medicine, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, internal medicine and biology. The ICAVL assesses every aspect of a laboratory's operation including day-to-day operations and the impact a facility has on the quality of health care provided to its patients. Summa Western Reserve Hospital is the Northeast Ohio region's first physician-owned, for-profit, full service hospital. The hospital is a majority physician-owned joint venture between Western Reserve Hospital Partners (which represents a collaboration of more than 200 physicians, including primary care physicians, surgeons and specialists) and Summa Health System.
