Northminster Presbyterian Church

The Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Ext., will continue throughout the summer to worship at the usual 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning time. Throughout July, the Rev. Stephanie Crossland will speak on "The Family of Faith," "Are You My Neighbor?" and "Ask, Seek, Find." The next B.Y.O.C. (Bring Your Own Chair) Sunday morning worship service will be July 18, with music provided by the Northminster Praise Band, including Rev. Crossland's message of "Not Moved from Hope." Meet in the memorial grove, beyond the picnic pavilion, with a lawn chair, and dress is casual. In the event of rain, the congregation will move inside to the sanctuary.

All teenage youth (completed grades 6-12) are invited for an afternoon of youth fellowship and summer fun planning, following the worship service on July 11, from noon to 3 p.m. Teens are asked to bring a calendar, invite a friend and come ready to plan some fun summer events.

During the summer, the church continues to try to fill its grocery cart for Good Neighbors, on the second Sunday of each month, with non-perishable food items and brown grocery bags.

Pilgrim United Church of Christ

The church's Diversity Committee is sponsoring a "Town Hall Discussion on Immigration Policy and Conditions in the USA" on July 22 at 7 p.m at Pilgrim UCC, located at 2592 West 14th St., Cleveland.

The screening of the movie "A Day without A Mexican" will be followed by a town hall discussion moderated by Cleveland immigration attorney and nationally acclaimed author Richard T. Herman along with Pilgrim UCC Diversity Committee co-chairs Bill Avery and Molly Holland, principles of ChooseDiversity.org - Organization for Cultural Competency LLC. This program is open to all that wish to attend and all perspectives on this issue are welcomed.

First United Methodist Church

First United Methodist Church is located at 245 Portage Trail. Due to the holiday weekend, there is no 5 p.m. worship service on July 3. There will be one service at 10:30 a.m. on July 4. The Rev. Valerie Stultz, District Superintendent of the Canal District of the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church will be the guest preacher that day. Also present in the service that day are Rev. Dr. David Baker and Rev. Derek Kubilus who began their ministry at First Church on July 1. Dr. Baker will preach his first sermon at First Church on July 10, at the 5 p.m. worship service and at the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. services on July 11. A meet and greet ice cream social for Dr. and Mrs. Baker and Rev. Kubilus will take place after each of the Sunday services.

Chess Camp at First Church is July 12-16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $100 for the week and includes trips to the Great Lakes Science Center NASA exhibit and Cuyahoga Valley Train, a T-shirt and a concluding tournament on Friday. The camp is open to all K-6th graders who are unrated or rated under 1,000. No chess experience is required. There will be life lessons from the Old Testament, crafts, snacks, and lots and lots of chess. Before and after care is available for an additional fee. First Church is sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive on July 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Also at 9:45 a.m. that day Red Cross is honoring First Church member, Bill Dreyer, who has donated more than 225 pints of blood. Walk-ins are welcome to the blood drive but if you know you are coming, it would be helpful to let the church know ahead of time by calling 330-923-5241 x210.

St. John's Episcopal Church

This summer St. John's will be making a pictorial directory in-house. Ryan Smas will be taking professional portraits of members and their loved ones on July 11 and Aug. 1 after the Sunday service. Group shots will be taken at the church picnic July 25.

The nursery is available throughout the summer. The Christian Formation classes will resume in September.

After serving 102 people at Soup's On, the workers then made sandwiches and delivered them to Habitat for Humanity workers June 26.

The annual church picnic and worship at the park is July 25 at 10 a.m. at Big Cuyahoga Shelter at Water Works Park, 2025 Munroe Falls Ave. The 8 a.m. service will be conducted at the church.

The church is located at 2220 Second St. Parking is available across the street. Handicap facilities services are also available.

Trinity United Church of Christ

Trinity United Church of Christ, 915 N. Main St. in Akron, will host Freedom Celebration Sunday for its July 4 service. The service will be on the lawn with picnic food to follow the service. The Rev. Dr. Doyle A. Luckenbaugh, a member the Executive Council of the United Church of Christ and the Ohio Conference Representative of the Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Miss. (www.thebackbaymission.org), will be the guest speaker. His sermon topic is "Let Freedom Ring." Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the fellowship. If there is inclement weather the service will be moved to the sanctuary.

Northampton Bible Church

Northampton Bible Church invites all children ages 4 through (going into) Grade 6 to attend Vacation Bible School. On July 18-22 from 6:30 to 8:40 p.m., children will have fun with a program called "High Seas Expedition: Exploring the Mighty Love of God!" The program is filled with Bible-learning experiences children will see, hear, touch and taste. Bible Point crafts, team-building games, Bible songs and treats are just a few of the activities that attendees will enjoy.

United Presbyterian Church

Pastor Ross Slaughter is currently preaching a message series: "Experiencing the Living God: Knowing His Will - Living Your Purpose." Video of Sunday messages can be viewed online by logging on to: www.tangle.com/fallsupc. Communion will be celebrated at both services.

United Presbyterian offers two types of worship. The traditional service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation contemporary service starts at 11 a.m. The Educational Hour, including "Amazement Park" for elementary school-age children, is from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Child care for babies and toddlers is available throughout the Sunday morning activities. Parking is available on church property. All are welcome.

PrayerLab will meet July 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PrayerLab is a ministry that focuses in on participants' prayer needs and helps participants grow in effective prayer.

On July 9, members and friends of U.P.C. have the opportunity to work with Springtime of Hope, a ministry to the needy and homeless at St. Bernard's in Akron. For more information, call the church office.

Resurrection Night, an informal time of worship and praise for and led by post-high school young adults, will be July 10, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Lietman Chapel. No agenda or liturgy so as to be Spirit-led. Information concerning this group and its activity can be found on Facebook by putting "Resurrection Night" in the search box.

Bailey Road Christian Church

Vacation Bible School will be presented from July 18-22 at 6:30 p.m. The theme will be, "Son Harvest Country Fair," which teaches about the fruits of the spirit. Vacation Bible School is intended for those 4-13.

Bethany United Church of Christ

Bethany United Church of Christ welcomes the community to worship with the congregation each Sunday at 8:30 (in the Social Hall) and 9:30 a.m. (in the sanctuary). Nursery is available from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. Bethany's Vacation Bible School, "Super Heroes," will be July 12-16. The church hopes children age 4 through completed grade 5 will join the congregation for Hero Headquarters! Registration is required. Graham Road Baptist Church

Graham Road Baptist Church will host the Vacation Bible School titled "Seaquest: Diving for God's Treasure" July 11-16 from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. It will be open to all children from age 4 to sixth grade. Graham Road Baptist Church is located at 705 Graham Road.

St. Stephen Lutheran Church

ReNew, "The Parable of the Sower" is the vacation Bible school program from July 12-16 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Each day, children will hear the entire Bible story, focusing on one section to discover what the passage means to them and how it relates to caring for God's creation. Activities are centered in stewardship.

VBS is open to children who will be 4 by Aug. 1 through fifth grade. Registration and medical forms are available at the church Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The student fee is $10 for the first child and $5 for all other children in the family.

A collection of coins will be taken to benefit the Humane Society of Greater Akron.

ReNew -- the Green VBS -- has pledged 5 percent of all sales to One Day's Wages Charity, a project providing clean and safe drinking water to developing countries. For more information, contact Susan Bentz, youth and family ministry at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, at 330-688-7213.

Crestview Baptist Church

Saddle up for Saddle Ridge Ranch. Set among the wide-open spaces of Big Sky country, Saddle Ridge Ranch is a place where kids can ask questions and discover the answers found in God's word, at Vacation Bible School at Crestview Baptist Church, 3943 Fishcreek Road, Stow.
