Church in the Falls

Starting June 28, the Church In The Falls, 837 Chestnut Blvd., will be conducting a four-day Vacation Bible School program titled "SonQuest Rainforest." This program will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon each day and consist of dynamic Bible story presentations, crafts, recreation, snacks, and music. There will also be a large inflatable on Monday, and a family picnic and program on Thursday evening. This VBS is for children age 4 through grade six. For more information, call 330-929-4717.

Northminster Presbyterian Church

The Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, will continue throughout the summer to worship at the usual 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning time. Throughout July, the Rev. Stephanie Crossland will speak on "The Family of Faith," "Are You My Neighbor?" and "Ask, Seek, Find." The next B.Y.O.C. (Bring Your Own Chair) Sunday morning worship service will be July 18, with music provided by the Northminster Praise Band, including Rev. Crossland's message of "Not Moved from Hope." Meet in the memorial grove, beyond the picnic pavilion, with a lawn chair, and dress is casual. In the event of rain, the congregation will move inside to the sanctuary.

All teenage youth (completed grades 6-12) are invited for an afternoon of youth fellowship and summer fun planning, following the worship service on July 11, from noon to 3 p.m. Teens are asked to bring a calendar, invite a friend and come ready to plan some fun summer events.

The Northminster Craft Guild meets on the third Wednesday and Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for women of the congregation and their friends who are interested in any craft. The next meetings will be on July 17 and July 21. Bring a lunch and plan to stay for good fellowship and crafting. Anyone who knits or crochets is encouraged to become a part of the Prayer Shawl ministry. Upon completion, the Prayer Shawls are dedicated and given to those individuals with a need to be "wrapped in prayers and warmth."

During the summer, the church continues to try to fill its grocery cart for Good Neighbors, on the second Sunday of each month, with non-perishable food items and brown grocery bags.

Pilgrim United Church of Christ

Pilgrim United Church of Christ invites community members to grow in their faith this Sunday through Christian Education at 9:30 a.m., or to experience the living presence of God through worship at 10:30 a.m. The church, on the corner of Broad Boulevard and Second Street, is handicap accessible. Groups that meet weekly at Pilgrim include Chancel Choir, Sundays at 9 a.m.; Adult Bible Study, Tuesdays at 10 a.m.; Emotions Anonymous, Thursdays at 8 p.m.; Alcoholics Anonymous, Saturdays at 8 p.m. Pilgrim is also proud to host Free Community Lunch the second Saturday of every month. The next date to enjoy a complimentary hot meal with the community is July 10 at noon.

The steeple lights the sky over Cuyahoga Falls "in honor of Jo and Bob's new life together and the new life awaiting anyone who waits upon the Lord."

First United Methodist Church

On June 27, there is one worship service at First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Marvin Brown will be preaching at that service, which is the last service for the Rev. Brown who is retiring after 33 years of ministry and for the Rev. Susan Lausch, who is leaving to serve at Church of the Cross United Methodist in Lexington, Ohio. An ice cream social/reception in their honor will take place on the church lawn following the service.

There will be no 5 p.m. worship service on July 3 due to the holiday weekend. There will be one service at 10:30 a.m. on July 4. The Rev. Valerie Stultz, cistrict superintendent of the Canal District of the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church, will be preaching that day. Also present in the service that day will be Dr. David Baker and the Rev. Derek Kubilus who are beginning their ministry at First Church. At the July 10 5 p.m. worship service, Dr. Baker will be preaching and he will be preaching at the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. services on July 11.

Registration deadline for summer camp for those entering grades 7-12 is June 28. The camp takes place at Camp Asbury near Hiram June 12-16. The church bus transports youth at 9 a.m. July 12 and returns them at 5 p.m. on July 16. The many activities that week include a Friday morning trip to Wild Water Kingdom. The cost is $175. Registration and health forms are available at the church or online atwww.epworthyouth.com. Payments may be made by credit card.

Chess Camp will take place at the church July 12-16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $100 for the week and includes trips to the Great Lakes Science Center NASA exhibit and Cuyahoga Valley Train, a T-shirt and a tournament on the last day. The camp is open to those entering kindergarten through sixth grade who are unrated or rated under 1,000. No chess experience is required. There will be life lessons from the Old Testament, crafts, snacks, and lots and lots of chess. Before and after care is available for an additional fee. St. John's Episcopal Church

Friendship Club is open to those 55 and older. Their annual picnic at Waterworks Park is June 30. Chicken and table service is provided. Bring a salad or casserole to share.

Presenters are needed during the summer months. Sign-up sheets are available in the undercroft.

St. Margaret's Guild is treating themselves to a trip to Miss Molly's Tea Room in Medina July 8. Members are encouraged to bring friends and relatives. Everyone will meet in the parking deck across the street from the church at 10:45 a.m.

Beginning July 1, an Adult Summer Education class will take place titled "Unbinding your heart." A salad supper at 6:15 p.m. will be followed by a class at 7. A sign-up sheet is available downstairs on the bulletin board. Books will be $13.50 each by a free-will offering.

Trinity United Church of Christ in Akron

Trinity United Church of Christ, 915 N. Main St. in Akron, will host Freedom Celebration Sunday for its July 4 service. The service will be on the lawn with picnic food to follow the service. The Rev. Dr. Doyle A.Luckenbaugh, a member the Executive Council of the United Church of Christ and the Ohio Conference Representative of the Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Miss. (www.thebackbaymission.org), will be the guest speaker. His sermon topic is "Let Freedom Ring." Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the fellowship. If there is inclement weather the service will be moved to the sanctuary.

Northampton Bible Church

Northampton Bible Church, 333 W. Steels Corners Road, invites all children ages 4 through (going into) Grade 6 to attend Vacation Bible School. On July 18-22 from 6:30 to 8:40 p.m., children will have fun with a program called "High Seas Expedition: Exploring the Mighty Love of God!" The program is filled with Bible-learning experiences children will see, hear, touch and taste. Bible Point crafts, team-building games, Bible songs and treats are just a few of the activities that attendees will enjoy.

United Presbyterian Church

United Presbyterian offers two types of worship. The traditional service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation contemporary service starts at 11. The Educational Hour, including "Amazement Park" for elementary school-age children, is from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Child care for babies and toddlers is available throughout the Sunday morning activities. Parking is available on church property. All are welcome.

On June 27, The U.P.C. Golf League will be teeing off at 5 p.m. at Raccoon Hill Golf Course in Kent.

On June 28, the Church Volleyball League will meet at Linden Park at 6:30 p.m.

PrayerLab will meet June 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PrayerLab is a ministry that focuses in on participants' prayer needs and helps participants grow in effective prayer. There will be no agenda or liturgy so as to be Spirit-led.

On June 30, the U.P.C. Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet in the Church Parlor from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Resurrection Night, an informal time of worship and praise for and led by post-high school young adults, will be July 3, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Lietman Chapel. No agenda or liturgy so as to be Spirit-led. Information concerning this group and its activity can be found on Facebook by putting "Resurrection Night" in the search box.

Bailey Road Christian Church

Summer hours, through Sept. 5: A morning worship service is offered Sundays at 10 a.m. Nursery care is available for children 4 and younger. There will be no Sunday school during summer hours.

On Sundays at 7 p.m., a contemporary praise service is offered.

On the first and third Tuesdays of every month, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., the Happy Hands sewing group meets. Its members make quilts for Children's Hospital and Crossroads Hospice. Any donation of material and thread is appreciated.

Every Wednesday of the month (with the exception that it is on Tuesday of the second week) chair dancing, a seated exercise program, is offered at 12:30 p.m.

On the last Friday of every month a community spaghetti dinner is served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Dinner includes all you can spaghetti with meat or plain sauce, a beverage, salad bar, bread and butter and dessert of your choice. Adults, $7; Children 4-10, $4; under 4, free.

Vacation Bible School will be presented from July 18-22 at 6:30 p.m. The theme will be, "Son Harvest Country Fair," which teaches about the fruits of the spirit. Vacation Bible School is intended for those 4-13.

Bethany United Church of Christ

Bethany United Church of Christ welcomes the community to worship with the congregation each Sunday at 8:30 (in the Social Hall) and 9:30 a.m. (in the Sanctuary). June 27 is Family Sunday and children will remain in worship. Nursery is available 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. The next Interfaith Hospitality Network host week begins June 27. Twin Falls United Methodist Church

Vacation Bible Adventure will take place July 18-27 from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. for children 3 to 12 years old. The theme is RENEW -- "Grow in Faith. Have Fun. Change the World."There will be a picnic lunch kickoff at 12:30 p.m. on July 18.

St. Stephen Lutheran Church

ReNew, "The Parable of the Sower" is the vacation Bible school program from July 12-16 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Each day, children will hear the entire Bible story, focusing on one section to discover what the passage means to them and how it relates to caring for God's creation. Activities are centered in stewardship.

VBS is open to children who will be 4 by Aug. 1 through fifth grade. Registration and medical forms are available at the church Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The student fee is $10 for the first child and $5 for all other children in the family.

A collection of coins will be taken to benefit the Humane Society of Greater Akron.

ReNew -- the Green VBS -- has pledged 5 percent of all sales to One Day's Wages Charity, a water project providing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries.

Crestview Baptist Church
