Akron General taps new Board chair, members

Akron General Health System (AGHS) recently appointed F. William Steere as Chairman of its Board of Directors. In addition, Akron General Medical Center named three new directors to its Board.

Steere, president and chief executive officer of Steere Enterprises Inc., a plastics manufacturing firm in Tallmadge, has been with the Akron General Board since 2002, With his appointment as chair, he continues the legacy of the Steere family with Akron General. His father, Frank W. Steere Jr., was chairman of the board from 1963-66, and his mother, Ruth Steere, was president of the Women's Board of Akron General from 1970-71.

Prior to his chairmanship, Steere served as vice chairman for the AGHS Board. He also served as chairman of the Akron General Medical Center Board for three years.

Steere replaces Richard C. Fedorovich, who has served on the Akron General Boards since 1992, most notably as Chairman of both Akron General Health System and Akron General Medical Center.

Akron General Medical Center also announced the appointments of three new directors on the board: David A. Brockman, Theresa Carter and J. Bret Treier.

Brockman is a certified public accountant and Managing Director of Akron-based BCG & Company. He is president of the Beacon Journal Charity Fund and is a trustee with the Greater Akron Chamber. He and his wife, Vicki, have two children and live in Fairlawn.

Carter is president of Omnova Solutions Foundation in Fairlawn. She is President of the Board of Directors for the Community Health Center in Akron and Vice Chair for Chamber Services for the Greater Akron Chamber. She and her husband, Garvin, have two children and live in Copley.

Treier is a partner with the law firm of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP. He is a Director of the Road Runner Akron Marathon and a Trustee with the Akron Metro YMCA Foundation. He and his wife, Diane, have two children and live in Akron.
