Akron man hospitalized, cited after two-truck crash

A 57-year-old Akron man was taken to Akron City Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries, police said, after he turned his pickup truck left into the path of another pickup truck being driven by another 57-year-old Akron man.

According to the report, the first man was traveling south on State Road around 4 p.m. June 20 preparing to turn left onto East Bath Road when he failed to yield for the other man who was northbound.

Both trucks had disabling damage. The man who was injured was cited for failure to obey a traffic signal.

Accident

June 19 -- Driver cited. A 26-year-old Falls woman was cited for right of way on private property following a crash on West Portage Trail 300 feet east of Akron Peninsula Road around 5:30 p.m. According to the report, the woman was waiting to turn left out of a drug store's drive onto West Portage Trail when a car traveling east in the right lane stopped to let her out. As she turned in front of the car that stopped, she struck a car driven by a 25-year-old Akron man who was traveling east in the left lane. Neither driver was injured. The man's car had disabling damage; the woman's, functional.

Assault

June 20 -- Altercation reported. A Falls woman reported she was involved in a physical altercation with a former boyfriend around 2 a.m. She had bruises on both arms, the report said, as a result of the man trying to pull her arms apart to keep her from taking property and moving out of her apartment.

Theft

June 19 -- Computer stolen. An Akron woman reported a laptop computer was taken out of her friend's vehicle while it was in her possession in the 1700 block of State Road between 11 p.m. June 18 and 8:30 a.m. June 19. There was no damage to the car. Loss was $850.

Open container

June 18 -- Beer in hand. A 25-year-old Falls man was arrested and charged with open container around 8:45 p.m. after he was seen with an open can of beer, police say, while he was a passenger in a vehicle traveling west on Falls Avenue between Fourth and Fifth streets.

Identity fraud

June 18 -- Criminal charges. A Falls man reported someone used a canceled credit card in his name to charge $4,640 in purchases on Feb. 27. The man said he was told to file a report by the electronics store chain that had issued him the card. No leads or suspects.

Criminal mischief

June 18 -- Grass fire. Someone set fire to the grass in front of Lincoln School, 3131 Bailey Road, police said. There was no damage. No leads or suspects.

Corrupting another
with drugs

June 17 -- Tastes funny. A Falls woman told police that a man she knows allegedly put an unknown drug into her drink at 6 p.m. June 16 while she was away from her apartment for a short time. She said she noticed her drink tasted different. She reported no ill effects, the report said, and she did not seek medical attention.

Drug paraphernalia

June 17 -- Traffic stop. A 22-year-old Tallmadge man was arrested and charged with drug paraphernalia after he was found with two pieces of marijuana paraphernalia during a traffic stop at Tallmadge Road and Newberry Street. The man was issued a summons.

Criminal trespassing

June 17 -- Drinks on the house. A resident of the 2000 block of Bailey Road reported seeing a group of juveniles congregating outside a vacant tavern and that two of them had been on the roof of the building. Police talked to six juveniles, the report said, and two of them admitted being on the roof. The property owner could not be located; no one was arrested.
