Akron First Presbyterian Church

Summer's Best 2 Weeks Day Camp at Akron First Presbyterian Church offers unique opportunities for youth ages 7-13 or those who have completed the first through seventh grades. SB2W is a Christian Sports Camp where campers learn a variety of sports. Those who've completed third grade have the opportunity for an overnight camping trip to Camp Y-Noah.

During all activities there is one central scripture verse used to guide behavior, thoughts and actions, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind, and your neighbor like yourself" (Matt. 22:36-38).

The program gives campers the chance to connect with God, grow new friendships, and be challenged physically. The program runs June 28 through July 9 at the church, 647 E. Market St. in Akron. Contact the church for more info at 330-434-5183 or akronfpc@sbcglobal.net.

St. John's Episcopal Church

The theme for the June 27 Pentecost Children's Chat is "Follow Me! We pay attention!" This follows the sermon at the 10 a.m. service.

Soup's On will be served on June 26 at 11:30 a.m. Entrance is at the side door on Second Street. All are welcome.

The 10 a.m. service is slimming down for the summer. In the absence of air conditioning, all windows will be open and the service will be under 60 minutes all summer long.

Friendship Club's Summer Picnic will be on June 30 at noon at a Water Works Park shelter, rain or shine. Chicken and table service will be provided; bring a dish to share. Renew old friendships and make new ones. Friendship Club is open to those 55 years and over. Let the church know if you need a ride. Contact Alyce Crowe for information at 330-929-1725.

Beginning July 1, an Adult Summer Education class will take place titled "Unbinding your heart." A salad supper at 6:15 p.m. will be followed by a class at 7. A sign-up sheet is available downstairs on the bulletin board. Books will be $13.50 each by a free-will offering.

United Presbyterian Church

Pastor Ross Slaughter is currently preaching a message series: "Experiencing the Living God: Knowing His Will - Living Your Purpose." Video of Sunday messages can be viewed online by logging on to: www.tangle.com/fallsupc.

United Presbyterian offers two types of worship. The traditional service starts at 8:30 a.m. and the New Creation contemporary service starts at 11 a.m. The Educational Hour, including "Amazement Park" for elementary school age children, is from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

On June 20, the U.P.C. Golf League will be teeing off at 5 p.m. at Brookledge Course, Bailey Road, Cuyahoga Falls.

On June 21, the Church Volleyball League will meet at Linden Park at 6:30 p.m.

PrayerLab will meet June 22 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PrayerLab is a ministry that focuses in on participants' prayer needs and helps participants grow in effective prayer. No agenda or liturgy so as to be Spirit-led.

On June 25, members and friends of U.P.C. have the opportunity to work with Springtime of Hope, a ministry to the homeless at St. Bernard's in Akron. For more information, call the church office.

On June 26, The U.P.C. Food Pantry will be distributing food from 9 to 11 a.m.

Resurrection Night, an informal time of worship and praise for and led by post-high school young adults, will be June 26, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Lietman Chapel. No agenda or liturgy so as to be Spirit-led. Information concerning this group and its activity can be found on Facebook by putting "Resurrection Night" in the search box.

Northminster Presbyterian Church

Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, will continue throughout the summer to host its Sunday morning worship service at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Stephanie Crossland. Plan to attend the next two outdoor B. Y. O. C. (Bring Your Own Chair) Sunday morning worship services on July 18 and Aug. 29. Meet in the memorial grove, beyond the picnic pavilion, with your own lawn chair, and dress is casual. In the event of rain, the congregation will move inside to the sanctuary.

The Northminster Book Club will continue to meet throughout the summer. The next meeting will be June 21 at 1:15 in the church lounge, to discuss the book "The Fall" by Simon Mawer. Everyone is welcome and is encouraged to bring a friend.

An adult evening of fun, fellowship and good food is being planned for June 25 at 6 p.m. at the church, sponsored by the Northminster Friendship Group. The cost is $3. Call the church for additional details.

First United Methodist Church

Galactic Blast Vacation Bible School is at First United Methodist Church, Third Street and Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls, during the week of June 21-25 from 9 a.m. to noon. It is for children ages 3 and potty trained to children entering fourth grade. There is also Survivor Challenge Galactic Style for kids entering fifth and sixth grade which is a hands-on mission program. The cost is $5 per child for the week or a maximum of $10 for a family. On June 27 there is one worship service at the church. The Rev. Marvin Brown will be preaching at that service.

This will be the last service for both Rev. Brown, who is retiring after 33 years of ministry and for Rev. Susan Lausch, who is leaving to serve at Church of the Cross United Methodist in Lexington, Ohio. An ice cream social / reception in their honor will take place on the church lawn following the service.

A Group of Guys invite the men of the community to join the men at First Church for a summer Sunday School exploring an EPIC (Experiential, Participatory, Image-rich, Connective) faith with "The Gospel According to Starbucks - Living with a Grande Passion" starting June 20 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the church. First Church Golf League is sponsoring their fifth annual golf outing in memory of longtime member Walter "Bud" Mills. Sign up for this event which will tale place at Brookledge Golf Course in Cuyahoga Falls on June 25. The format will be a four-person scramble with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start. The cost is $75 per person and will include 18 holes with cart, range balls, beverages on the course, snack pack, welcome package, a catered steak dinner following play, prizes and more. Pilgrim United Church of Christ

Pilgrim United Church of Christ invites you to grow in your faith this Sunday through Christian Education at 9:30 a.m. or to experience the living presence of God through worship at 10:30 a.m. The church on the corner of Broad Boulevard and Second Street is handicap accessible. Pilgrim is looking for angels to donate much needed items for the church. Check the board outside the kitchen for the church's current needs. Bethany United Church of Christ

Bethany United Church of Christ welcomes the community to worship with the congregation each Sunday at 8:30 (in the Social Hall) and 9:30 a.m. (in the Sanctuary). Sunday School for children will be during the 9:30 hour. First through sixth graders will attend the service with their parents and then go to the children's library after the children's message. Nursery is available from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. Women's Fellowship will have their picnic June 21 at 6 p.m. The next Interfaith Hospitality Network host week begins June 27. Trinity United Church of Christ in Akron

Trinity United Church of Christ, 915 N. Main St. in Akron will have a morning music camp for children ages 5 through 13 from June 21 through 25 from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Journey Covenant Church

Journey Covenant Church serves a free, hot dinner to local residents on the last Tuesday of every month from 6 to 7 p.m. The next dinner will take place June 29. Christ Kitchen Dinners are open to the public.

The price is $40 per person and includes camping for two nights, meals, devotion time, fellowship, canoe trip, horse trails, hay ride, tubing, mini-golf, and hiking. Those attending are asked to bring a snack and a 12 pack of pop to share.
