Dino Palmieri implements plan to help the Gulf Coast In an effort to help in the cleanup efforts in the wake of the unprecedented oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Dino Palmieri Salon & Spas is collecting hair clippings to used in the construction of hair booms and mats which have been proven effective in sopping up oil. Jolene Blaha and Jessica Klich are the driving force behind mobilizing Palmieri stylists to assist in the cutting edge efforts to make a difference in the cleanup of the Gulf. Both women came up with the same idea after doing some homework on the Internet about ways they might assist those suffering from the effects of the massive spill. "I was sad and enraged by the situation. I felt helpless," said Klich. "I wanted to do something. This solution sounded so simple and it works." According to Matter of Trust, a San-Francisco based environmental non-profit group, the ridged texture that helps human hair soak up natural skin oils also makes it an ideal medium for collecting crude oil. A few years ago, the group began using both human hair and pet fur to create mats that are oil-adsorbent -- oil clings to the mats, rather than being absorbed into them -- and can be used to help contain oil spills. Used effectively in the during smaller scale spills, the booms and mats are now on the frontline in the battle to clean up the water in Gulf. Dino Palmieri is offering a $5 discount during the month of June to any client who mentions the cleanup efforts in the Gulf to their stylist during their salon visit at any of their following locations: Solon Salon, Great Northern Mall, Southpark Mall, Summit Mall, Southpark Mall, Studio Palmieri (Cleveland), Beachwood Mall and LaPlace.
