United Presbyterian Church

The message series this year is: "Experiencing the Living God: Knowing His Will -- Living Your Purpose." This week Pastor Ross Slaughter's message will be on how the names of God from the Bible can help people in their spiritual journey.

On June 6, The U.P.C. Golf League will be teeing off at 5 p.m. at Raccoon Hills Golf Course along Judson Road in Kent.

PrayerLab will meet June 8, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The U.P.C. Senior High Youth Group will sponsor a car wash on June 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church parking lo to raise funds for their mission trip to Savannah, Ga.

On June 12, the U.P.C. Free Soup Lunch will take place in the Fellowship Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

St. John's Episcopal Church

Sunday School Recognition Sunday is June 6 during the 10 a.m. service. There will also be an intergenerational event featuring Sidewalk Chalk Bible Stories.

Children's Chats occur every second and fourth Sunday each month. The chat for June 13 three Pentecost Sinners apologize to God. The chat follows the sermon at the 10 a.m. service. The Men of St. John's will meet at Reggie's for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. June 9.

Bailey Road Christian Church

Summer hours, June 13-Sept. 5: A morning worship service is offered Sundays at 10 a.m. Nursery care is available for children 4 and younger.

On Sundays at 7 p.m., a contemporary praise service is offered.

On the first and third Tuesdays of every month, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., the Happy Hands sewing group meets. Its members make quilts for Children's Hospital and Crossroads Hospice. Any donation of material and thread is appreciated.

Every Wednesday of the month (with the exception that it is on Tuesday of the second week) chair dancing, a seated exercise program, is offered at 12:30 p.m.

Northminster Presbyterian Church

The Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, invites community members to join the congregation for its Sunday morning worship service at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Stephanie Crossland.

Recognition Sunday, a time set aside to recognize and thank the very important contributors to the Sunday morning worship services, will take place during the Sunday morning service on June 6. Bibles will be presented that day to the third graders, and high school and college graduates will be recognized.

The next spaghetti dinner is June 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. The dinner includes spaghetti with marinara, chunky meat sauce or special Alfredo sauce, salad, bread, dessert and coffee, punch or tea. The cost is $7 for adults, $3.50 for children 6-12 and free for children 5 and under.

Northminster Church invites all children ages 4-11 to its Vacation Bible School June 12-16. "Galactic Blast: A Cosmic Adventure Praising God!" is this year's theme. There is a "kick-off" pot-luck dinner June 12 from 4:30-6:30 p.m., and continues Sunday-Thursday (June 13-16) from 6-8 p.m. For more information, call Christy Bauer at the church at 330-928-8885.

First United Methodist Church

Register for Galactic Blast Vacation Bible School at First Church during the week of June 21-25 from 9 a.m. to noon. It is for children ages 3 and potty trained to children entering fourth grade. There is also Survivor Challenge Galactic Style for kids entering fifth- and sixth-grade which is a hands-on mission program. The cost is $5 per child for the week or a maximum of $10 for a family. Also offered will be Galactic Blast Extreme Day Camp which is a full day option for kids entering first- through the sixth-grades. For this option there is an additional $50 for the week per child or $45 for each additional child from the same family. A Group of Guys invite the men of the community to join the men at First Church for a summer Sunday School exploring an EPIC faith with "The Gospel According to Starbucks - Living with a Grande Passion" starting June 20 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. According to the book's author, Leonard Sweet, Starbucks provides an EPIC model for a faith that leads to "Living with a Grande Passion" - Experiential, Participatory, Image-rich, Connective. Pilgrim United Church of Christ

Sign up soon for the 2010 mission trip. The plan is to leave June 11, travel to Windsor, Connecticut to spend the weekend at First Church in Windsor from "whence we came." After worshipping with them on June 13, (other weekend activities are planned, too) church members will proceed to Philadelphia and spend the week working with Old First Church UCC, which is engaged in urban ministry. There will be some sightseeing, then church members will head back to Pilgrim on June 19.

The actual cost per person is $350. Each person who goes will be asked to pay a $50 deposit only. For more information, see Marilyn Freeman.

There is a Free Community Lunch the second Saturday of every month. The next lunch is June 12 at noon.

Prayer Around the Rose Garden is June 9 at 7 p.m. Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the church's rose garden with a special time of guided prayer, a story, and live music. A time for refreshments will follow. In case of rain, this event will take place inside.

First Christian Church

First Christian Church invites children to participate in the fourth Annual ADAM's Kids Fine Arts Summer Camp. ADAM's Kids is an acronym for Art, Drama and Music and is a seven-week program. Children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade will learn music, staging and create art, which will culminate in the final musical production of Splash Kingdom by Pam Andrews July 29. Camp participants meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The camp fee is $6 per child with a maximum of $15 per family. Financial scholarships are available. Bethany United Church of Christ

Bethany United Church of Christ welcomes the community to worship with the congregation each Sunday at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Church school is offered for children and adults at 9:15 a.m. The summer schedule begins June 13, which means the early service will be at 8:30 in the social hall, with a 9:30 service scheduled in the sanctuary. Sunday school for children is offered during the 9:30 hour. First- through sixth-graders will attend the service with their parents and go to their class after the children's message. Younger children will be in class for the whole hour.

Bethany's volunteer nurses will offer blood pressure tests during the social hour June 13.
