St. John's Episcopal Church

The annual Mary Martha award is given to the woman who has served God and the church diligently during a long period of time. The ECW recognizes Betty Wheeler and will have her name engraved on a plaque to be placed in the historical section. The presentation of this honor will be May 30 at the 10:30 service.

Comedy Central is the theme for St. Theresa's Guild meeting May 17 at Ginger Sirola's home. Election of officers will take place at the Double T Quilt Club meeting May 20. Members are asked to bring ideas for programs. Ladies Night out is May 27 at 7. The congregation is encouraged to bring friends to hear the guest speaker, Carol Starre-Kmiecik. She portrays Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis. The program starts at 7, followed by desserts.

June 8 is St. John's trip to see the Aeros play New Hampshire. Tickets are available from Tony Hitchcox-and the deadline for ordering tickets is May 23.

United Presbyterian Church

Pastor Ross Slaughter is presenting messages in a series entitled: "Experiencing the Living God: Knowing His Will -- Living Your Purpose." Video of Sunday messages can be viewed online by logging on to:www.tangle.com/fallsupc.

On May 16, The U.P.C. Golf League will be teeing off at 5 p.m. at Raccoon Hills Golf Club in Kent. The "God-Sightings" Bible discussion group will meet May 17 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the church parlor. PrayerLab will meet May 18 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PrayerLab is a ministry that focuses in on participants' prayer needs and helps participants grow in effective prayer. On May 19, the U.P.C. Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet in the church parlor from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A Kerygma Bible Study will meet on May 19 at 6 p.m.

On May 20, D.M.A. (Don't Mention Age), a social group for senior citizens, will meet in the Fellowship Hall for lunch beginning at noon and followed by a program at 1 p.m. This month's program will be pianist Moss Stanley of Knights Bridge Entertainment.

On May 22, The U.P.C. Food Pantry will be distributing food from 9 to 11 a.m.

U.P.C. will celebrate Pentecost, the Sunday of the Holy Spirit, on May 23, with one combined service beginning at 10 a.m.

Northminster Presbyterian Church

The Northminster Presbyterian Church, located at 104 W. Portage Trail Ext., invites the public to join them for Sunday morning worship service at 10:30 with the Rev. Stephanie Crossland. Crossland will center her worship themes around "Coming Home" and "It's Not the Vine that Ate the South!" to finish the month of May.

The Northminster Book Club continues to meet the third Monday of each month at 1:15 p.m. in the church lounge. For the May 17 meeting, the book chosen is "Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet," by Jamie Ford.

The congregation will celebrate Pentecost on May 23 by dressing in any clothing item that is red. New members will be welcomed into the congregation during the 10:30 worship service. For information, call 330-928-8885.

First United Methodist Church

Thirteen teens will be confirmed at First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, during the 11 a.m. worship service May 16. A reception will take place after the service.

On May 23, the church will honor its graduating high school seniors at the 8:30 a.m. worship service with a reception following. That evening, there will be a banquet for all youth and their families, honoring the seniors and celebrating their year of activities.

Also on May 23, the congregation will recognize teachers as well as celebrating Pentecost by bringing in red geraniums which will be used to decorate the church grounds. Check the First Church website, firstchurchcf.com for more information.

Pilgrim United Church of Christ

Pilgrim United Church of Christ invites you to grow in your faith this Sunday through Christian Education at 9:30 a.m. or to celebrate the resurrection of Christ through worship at 10:30 a.m. The church on the corner of Broad Boulevard and Second Street is handicap accessible. Join Pilgrim Church May 16 for an afternoon of scrumptious goodies and fashion silliness as Amelia Bedelia, a character from children's books, puts her own spin on a fashion show. Limited seating is available, so reserve tickets today by contacting the church office at 330-928-4847. Tickets are $12 for an adult, $8 for children 12 and under, and children 2 and under are free. The attendee's ticket will include an entry into a grand prize raffle.

Mission Trip Spaghetti Dinner will take place on May 23: Help the church make the round trip for $3 per mile.

Bethany United Church of Christ

Bethany United Church of Christ welcomes the community to worship with the congregation each Sunday at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. The congregation offers church school for children and adults at 9:15 a.m.

During May, the Mission Committee will conduct its annual giving to Chapel Hill Community. The church gives to the Life Enrichment Fund to provide for those who need financial assistance. The Women's Fellowship of

Bethany will host its spring luncheon May 19 at 11:30 a.m. The program features The Patterson Park Singers. Tickets are $4. Spring clean-up will take place May 22 at 9 a.m. Lunch will be provided.

Christian Education is planning to decorate the church sanctuary with red geranium plants on Pentecost, May 23. Bring a potted red geranium and set it on a window sill in the sanctuary. For information call 330-923-5277.
