St. John's Episcopal Church The 75th publication of Day By Day is being celebrated this month. The new pamphlets for May, June and July are available at the back of the church. Tom Hopton discovered there is also a large print copy of this publication and if anyone is interested, advise the office. The Bishop is coming. The Rev. David Bowman will be leading worship on May 16 at 10 a.m. Following the confirmation service, there will be a reception for those confirmed. St. Margaret's ends their fiscal year May 13 at 10:30. The business meeting is at the church and installation of officers will occur, followed by lunch at Gus' Chalet. St. Monica's last meeting for the year will be May 13 at 10:30. After their installation of officers, they will be going to Donzell's Garden Center followed by lunch. Grandview United Methodist Church Grandview United Methodist Church, 2315 Phelps Ave., will host a salad luncheon on May 15, from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. The theme this year is chocolate, and a Dove chocolatier will be serving a variety of chocolate fondues. The cost for the luncheon is $6 per person. Ages 12 and under are free. On May 16 at 4:30 p.m., the congregation will gather for their monthly program Faith Through the Movies where the 1997 film "Contact" starring Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey will be shown. St Joseph's Flea Market St. Joseph's is seeking people who would like to participate in the St. Joseph's Flea Market. One can sell treasures, toys, crafts, woodworking items, records, antiques and furniture. The flea market will be June 19 at St. Joseph's School, 1090 3rd St. Each space is $20 (approximately 5 feet by 9 feet). Those who confirm their space by May 28 will get 2 spaces for $25. First United Methodist Church Fourth- and sixth-graders are invited to participate in a fun mystery mission adventure on May 14, beginning at 6 p.m. at First Church. The well-chaperoned group will head out for the mystery adventure and then return to the church for gym time, games, a movie, snacks and a sleep over at the church. Kids will wake up and head over to OPEN M for the Walk for Kids which will take place at the Akron Zoo. There is no cost, but each participant is asked to bring a dessert, doughnuts or fruit to share. Going Strong, a group of active retired persons, plans a bus trip May 20. The bus leaves at 8:45 a.m. and returns at 4 p.m. and will be touring Fowler's Milling Co. in Chardon, End of the Commons General Store in Mesopotamia, Middlefield Original Cheese Co-op, Richard Maple Products and lunch at Mary Yoder's Amish Kitchen in Middlefield. United Presbyterian Church As part of his series "Experiencing the Living God: Knowing His Will -- Living Your Purpose," Pastor Ross Slaughter's message will explore the connection between belief and what God can do. PrayerLab will meet May 11 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. On May 12, the U.P.C. Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet in the Church Parlor from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A Kerygma Bible Study will meet on May 12, at 6 p.m. On May 14, members and friends of U.P.C. have the opportunity to work with Springtime of Hope, a ministry to the homeless at St. Bernard's in Akron. For more than 90 years, United Church homes have demonstrated an uplifting difference in older adult lives and services. The group gives to the Life Enrichment Fund to provide for those who need financial assistance. Bethany Kitchen is a free luncheon for those who need a meal. Help is always needed for food preparation, serving and cleaning up. All are welcome to join the congregation May 15 and enjoy fellowship and lunch. The Women's Fellowship of Bethany will host their spring luncheon May 19 at 11:30 a.m. The program features The Patterson Park Singers. Tickets are $4. Bring a breakfast item to share and your favorite coffee mug. May 16 is Family Day.
