First United Methodist Church On April 25, First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, is having a "Special Needs Awareness Sunday" at the 8:30 and 11 a.m. services. Participating will be the group S.I.G.N. (Signing in God's Name) Ministry. First Church and the United Methodist Church as a whole has recognized the need for churches to be very intentional about welcoming all God's children, including persons of all ages with special needs or handicapping conditions of all types. 90 percent of families having members with special needs do not have any faith home. Pilgrim United Church of Christ Pilgrim United Church of Christ invites you to grow in your faith this Sunday through Christian Education at 9:30 a.m. or to celebrate the resurrection of Christ through worship at 10:30 a.m. The historic church on the corner of Broad Boulevard and Second Street is handicap accessible. The movie "Up" will be showing on the big screen in the Social Hall at 7 p.m. Bring a bag of microwave popcorn, a beverage to share and a cushion for extra comfort. Child care will be provided. Peninsula United Methodist Church The church's normal Sunday services are: a contemporary service at 8:30 a.m. followed by a regular worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday School is after the worship service at 11 a.m. Choir practice is on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday morning Bible Study is at 10 a.m. The church will be celebrating Earth Day on April 25. During the worship service there will be a special discussion on renewable energy and a small science project for the children. The church will be decorated for Earth Day and the congregation will be handing out small white pine trees for people to take home and plant. There will be a lunch after worship. United Presbyterian Church As part of his series "Experiencing the Living God: Knowing His Will - Living Your Purpose," Pastor Ross Slaughter will be "Walking With God," drawing on Genesis 2.15-3.11. Youth Groups will meet at the church for both Middle School and High School groups. On April 26, the Ruth Circle will meet in the Church Parlor at 1 p.m. PrayerLab will meet April 27 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. PrayerLab is a ministry that focuses in on participants' prayer needs and helps participants grow in effective prayer. No agenda or liturgy so as to be Spirit-led. On April 28, the U.P.C. Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet in the Church Parlor from 6 to 7:30 p.m. On April 30, members and friends of U.P.C. have the opportunity to work with Springtime of Hope, a ministry to the homeless at St. Bernard's in Akron. Redeemer Lutheran Church Redeemer Lutheran Church, located at 2141 Fifth St., invites community members to join the congregation this weekend at one of its three services to worship and praise the Lord and Savior. Saturday evening at 6 p.m. is a contemporary service. Sunday at 8:45 a.m. is the traditional service and at 11:15 a.m. is another contemporary service. The Church in Silver Lake The hot meal to the community, "Lunch On Us," is served the first Saturday of each month at 11:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall. Northminster Presbyterian Church The Northminster Presbyterian Church, 104 W. Portage Trail Extension, invites community members to join the congregation for its Sunday morning worship service at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Stephanie Crossland. The Rev. Crossland's message on April 25 will be "The Sheepdog," with scripture readings from Psalm 23 and John 10. The Craft Guild meets every third Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for women of the congregation and their friends, who are interested in any craft. Bring a brown bag lunch and join the group for either (or both) meeting(s) for fun, good fellowship and enjoyment. The Presbyterian Women's Spring Gathering will be April 30, at noon in the Atkins Fellowship Hall. A salad bar and dessert luncheon is included. The program will be "Joggin Your Noggin" by Jennifer Miller. All women and their guests are invited to attend. There is no charge, although reservations are requested.
