DR. JOHN D. HOBENSACK Retired pediatrician Dr. John D. Hobensack of Silver Lake died Feb. 12, 2010. Dr. Hobensack was born June 30, 1926 in Akron. He was a Silver Lake resident for 50 years and a longtime member and past deacon at The Church in Silver Lake. Dr. Hobensack graduated from Kent State University at the age of 17 with a degree in chemistry. Following completion of his undergraduate studies, Dr. Hobensack honorably served two years in the U.S. Army receiving two bronze stars while serving in the Asiatic-Pacific theater during World War II. Following his service, he enrolled in medical school at what is now Case-Western Reserve University, graduating in 1951. After completing his internship in Akron, he finished his residency in pediatrics at the University of Colorado at Denver. Dr. Hobensack was a pediatrician in Akron until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of both the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was also an active charter member of the Goodyear Heights Lions Club and a 60-year member of Scottish Rite. In his free time he enjoyed humorous storytelling, crossword puzzles and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Glennie; daughter, Beth Hobensack of Dallas; sons, John (Jill) of Cuyahoga Falls and Bill (Jennifer) of Jacksonville, Fla; grandsons, Ethan, Luke and Jacob Hobensack; and brother-and sister-in-law, John and Dory Ferensic. Visitation was at Redmon Funeral Home. The Rev. Dianne Shirey conducted services at The Church in Silver Lake. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Church in Silver Lake.
