by Phil Keren Editor Silver Lake -- Perhaps the village could be renamed Tinseltown this spring. Mayor Bernie Hovey said he thinks Silver Lake is "a great venue" to serve as one of the settings for a movie about the All-American Soap Box Derby that is being spearheaded by film and television star Corbin Bernsen. Mary Ethridge, a spokeswoman for Bernsen, told the Falls News-Press that Bernsen and his crew "visited a home in Silver Lake they believe is 'perfect' for many of the shots in the movie." Ethridge said that "for privacy reasons we don't want to give out their name and address," but added it is a home that is for sale and said Bernsen "found it online and went to see it with a local real estate agent." "He said the family living there was very 'welcoming,' but details of a deal between the movie and the family are still in the works," said Ethridge. If a deal is worked out with the homeowner, Ethridge said that some shots for the movie "25 Hill" will be done at the Silver Lake home in April. She noted the filming is slated to start in early April at Derby Downs. "I think it's kind of neat," said Hovey. "Silver Lake is small-town America. The Soap Box Derby is small-town America ... I think Silver Lake's a great venue for it." Bernsen recently announced he's ready to start shooting a movie aiding the financially troubled All-American Soap Box Derby. Bernsen says commitments he has for about $500,000 are enough to get the film going. The former star of the TV series "L.A. Law," who now appears on the USA Network series "Psych," said he's confident he has enough financial backing to make "a really good movie." The derby has gone two years without a corporate sponsor, and its lender sued to repay a $580,000 loan. "I think it'll be cool for Silver Lake to have [parts of the movie filmed here] and I think it's good for the entire Akron area," said Hovey. Hovey noted that no one connected with the film has contacted Village Hall, but when they do, he said, "I'll be happy to help them." "I'm hoping they have a bit role for me," said Hovey with a laugh.
