by Steve Wiandt Reporter Cuyahoga Falls -- It's that time again. It rolls around every five years. Time to review the city's Charter. During its first meeting March 11, the city's Charter Review Commission elected officers and set its meeting schedule. Roland Seguin was elected chairman; Laura Petrella, vice-chairperson; and Sandra Dixson Froelich, secretary. The other four members of the Commission are Yvonne Sebastian, Thomas Melito, Harrison Criss and the Rev. Kirk Bruce. The Commission's schedule for reviewing the charter is as follows: * March 25: Articles 7-8. * April 8: Articles 9-12. * April 22: Preamble through Article 3, Section 5.3. * May 6: Article 3, Section 6 through Article 4. * May 20: Articles 5-6. * June 3 and 24: Tie up loose ends, get caught up if necessary, and summarize. All meetings will begin at 6 p.m. in Conference Room A of the Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Building, 2310 Second St. They are open to the public. Deputy Law Director Hope Jones said the Commission must finish its review and prepare any proposed amendments in time to report to City Council by July 12. If there are any proposed amendments, Jones said, Council will need time to submit them to the voters. The city's Charter has been in effect since Jan. 1, 1960. Beginning in 1965, according to the Charter, and every five years thereafter the Mayor is required, with confirmation of the majority of Council, to appoint a seven-member commission. No one who holds municipal office or municipal employment is eligible, the Charter states, and no more than four of the members can belong to the same political party. Members are not compensated for their service on the Commission. The Charter can be accessed through the city's Web site by going to cfo.cityofcf.com and clicking on "Law" under the drop-down menu called "Departments," then click "City Charter" in the menu on the left.
