Turnovers have killed the Woodridge boys basketball team in the last week of the season.

In the team's debut in the Division II post season, it was speed that burned the Bulldogs.

Woodridge, 7-14 overall, was ousted from post season play by athletic Warrensville Heights, who won the first round sectional 55-36 on March 1 in the Stow Division II sectional-district tournament.

It was the Bulldogs debut in Division II from Division III and also the first time Woodridge has played at Stow in the post season.

Woodridge stayed close for awhile, but managed just 13 baskets against Warrensville.

"It was a tough game and it didn't help that we had some people out, but Warrensville Heights is underrated," said Woodridge head coach Dave Krusinski, who was without junior point guard Chris Mathews.

The speedy guard duo of RayShawn Clement and Krisean Clemons each scored 14 points for Warrensville (6-15), who advanced to the March 5 sectional finals against top seeded University School (16-3).

"They are a lot more athletic than we are and we haven't seen that this year to that extent," said Krusinski, after the loss. "There was a big difference."

"Warrensville is young and very talented. They have tremendous athletes and we just couldn't gain on them. If we stay in division II, we better get used to it."

Center Brennan Owens scored 11 to lead Woodridge, which trailed 13-10 and 26-19 at the first two quarter breaks. Baskets were few and far between from that point on.

Senior Derek Morgan poured in nine points in the loss while Krusinski was thrilled with the play of Brandon Shannon (five points off the bench), who was promoted from the JV team.

A.J. Graham and Randy Foster each had four, Jared Page had two, and senior Mike Orr added a free throw.
